What brand 315's?

Where are you guys buying your 315's at? I just sent a set of wheels of to get them widened 2" and cant seem to find any good looking tires.

I have looked at some sumitumo's and kumho's and they look ok but I'm not crazy about them. I dont really care for the goodyears either. And I've had bad luck with Nitto's. :( I guess I'm just too picky. Right now I am running Hankooks but I cant find them in 315's. I looked through the 315 pics thread but not many people post what brand they run.

I'm not looking for a drag tire. I just want a good, directional, street tire.

Opinions?

I have Nitto's all 4 corners. 555's up front, r's in the rear. Just curious, what was ur bad experience with them? Mine have given me no problems.

kyoytey1693 Jul 26, 2011 10:49 AM

Just that they wore out way too damn fast for a barely driven street car. I dont take it to the track and I dont street race that much and I'm still running the stock rear end. I just didn't think they were worth it.

I know everyone else seems to love them but I just wasn't impressed.

LUNATIK LT1 Jul 26, 2011 10:51 AM

I run 315/35/17 in the rear, NITTO NT05r. I had the 555r but recently just changed them. Never had problems with either....

what did you experience? I know there was a thred on here about the nitto tires exploding but who knows under what circumstance.

kyoytey1693 Jul 26, 2011 11:06 AM

I just didn't like how long they lasted. They seemed to hook pretty good but I dont race that much and they got wore down pretty quick.

Were they radials? If so I guess i can see that. But I thought mine lasted well though, about 15k miles at least and 15 passes at the strip and another 5 on an extremely rough abandon airstrip. Can't expect radials to last too long..

Nitto makes a wide range of tires, and without knowing which ones, it is difficult to pinpoint your wear complaint.

How the tread looks is not always an indicator of potential. I would lean more towards a well reviewed tire, than one with a pretty tread.

Considering that 17 inch wheel are small by todays standard, the tire selection is decreasing. Also the 315/35/17 was, if memory serves, only used by GM in factory corvette applications (1989-1996), there is not a huge call for them.

I know you said you dont like DR but if you dont Race that much then look at these MT, thats what i run 315x35x17:nod:.

I'm running 315 Nitto 555 Extremes on the rears now....they are damn good. Great on dry pavement and great in the rain.

BUT...they are NOWHERE near as good as the Goodyear GS-D3's I ran the two times before that.

I have some Hoosier 315/35/17 DR's on the back of mine. They are alot better traction than the M/T's I had on before. They dont do much in the rain though.

I dont remember which nitto's I had. I was about 4 years ago on my 96 TA. I agree with your statement about getting a well reviewed tire. I had checked out the one at tirerack. Looks like kumho and sumi are pretty damn close to the Goodyears and I really dont care to pay 360.00 per tire if I can keep from it and still get a descent tire.

How well do those MT's wear? I'm assuming they are a pretty soft tire?

The Hoosiers are pretty much the same story as well, right? Good and sticky but not the greatest at longevity?

Toyo R888s. Hands down. Hook AND handle better and any other tire or DR I've ever had. They are a "wider" 315 aswell. I have them on all 4 corners.

Call me cheap but I wasn't looking to blow 300 per tire. Everything I read says they are built for race cars but street legal. I'm assuming they are pretty soft as well and dont last that long?

98camaro28 Jul 26, 2011 08:28 PM

I paid $860 shipped for all 4. 275s up front and 315s rear. And that's for 18's.

I haven't noticed any wear in about 3k on mine. That might not be much to some, but these tires will rot out before they're bald for me.

NVR_SPDS Jul 27, 2011 08:56 AM

The Nitto DRs do wear relatively quick, (not nearly as fast as other DRs) but the street tires, like the NT555s with last a long time..

I have the NT555s in 315/35-17 on the back of my WS6 (Widened 00 WS.6 wheels) and couldnt be any happier with a street tire. They are a great all around tire (run them on both of our WS6s, in various sizes).

Heres a good ass shot:

I run the Nitto 555 Extremes and moved to those from the Sumitomojunk. Huge difference in looks, handling, wet/dry traction, and I gained an inch in contact patch. I had to bring the BFH back out to the fender wells. I've had them on for about 5mo and 5K miles and they are wearing really nicely!

Thats a good looking car. Is it lowered? Are you running spacers and longer studs since you widened the wheels? I dont remember which Nitto's I had. I think you guys just about have me talked into trying them again tho. Are the sumi's crap? Tirerack seems to have given them good reviews.

Considering he has said twice that he needs life out of the tire, and that drag radials really aren't what he is looking for, I would still call the htread active.
