20's on a Camaro

This going on a up and coming project (1200-1500hp 4th Gen Camaro) First question should I go 20 or stay with 18's. If anyone here is a wheels expert, what is the highest backspacing and offset to go with on a 18 and 20 inch rim. Width of the rim will be 14", has to be to hold the hp down.

I bought that wheels measuring tool off ebay and its crap, only goes to 10" wide and 4" backspacing. LAME!!! Waste of $$$!

I bought a set of Z06 rims a long time ago and I forgot what the offset/backspacing on them is so I can put the order in for a new set!

Just my $.02: 20" do not work on an F-body. They barely fit in the wheel wells and you need crazy thin tires. There are a few rare exceptions out there that pull if off, but most just look bad.

I agree 20's just don't look right...19's are the biggest I would go, 18's look perfect IMO but it just depends on the wheel. I say that's a no go on the twankies haha

20s can look good depending on the wheel style. The simpler the better IMO. I went with 19s though.

Chaman still say the same sick looking car!!! But I just think for any F-body they are the best way to go ..BMW wheels..

chaman Aug 25, 2011 08:01 PM

Thanks man! I must say those 20's really seem to work!

elmarro Aug 25, 2011 08:06 PM

Yea not for me I want some 18" maybe 19" but 20" is a lil 2 big for me..but don't look as bad as what I thought..

This Camaro is making 1800hp with 20's...I spoke to a couple of people about it and they said "they needed the tire to be as stiff as possible to reduce wheels hope.

Only reason why I didn't but 20's a few years back when I bought the Z06 rims is I live in Chicago. 20's don't last out here at all...however now she's a trailer queen, I don't beat on her as much nor do I abuse her. I'm in the process of installing the wide body kit to my wheel dimensions are limitless.

The reason why I'm asking is I want to hear from people who have them, what they have to say about them.

I have 19's...and they work just fine for normal driving, i really don't see a street set up that would hold that much power and do decentin the rain

ls1ya Aug 26, 2011 12:01 AM

20s all the way... I have them on my dd. can't wait to get more money. Then I will get a custom set of dubs with my dimension s

20s are borderline donk status on 4th gens... save yourself some money and get 19s, or better yet 18s. I don't understand this obsession with having GIANT wheels. Maybe it's because I like 17" ZR1s.

BlueBird346 Aug 26, 2011 12:38 AM

I dont see any rubber band tires holding down 1200+ hp either.

Nitto and BF make a set that I would go with (345-25-20) or (345-30-18). 20's vs 18's the actual tire diameter is the same. Each tire make around 755 revolutions per mile. The 5 mm difference of thickness of the sidewall is what compensate for the upgrade from 18 to 20.

With the wide body kit I gained 2" of body space to accommodate the ridiculousness of the street radial tire. Pirelli just came out with a 375 which would have to be mounted on a 14.5 width rim which is still a option for me but I want to see folks on here with a suspension and big rims. I don't mean show rims, actually functional wheel/tire combo. (If that make any sense?)

I absolutely DO NOT want the DONK appearance but there is a way to slap a set of 20's and drop the body on them to cover their ridiculous size.

If my calculations are correct a 14 inch rim will tuck 8mm from the inner fender. I'm hopping to tuck the entire 25mm sidewall of the tire and a very small portion of the rim.

I think 18's are the biggest size for 4th gen camaros. 19's are the biggest for T/A's. 20's are way too big

I do agree with you but this new setup will cost an arm, a leg and a small child...I would like to see all my options because the wheels are going to have to be custom made to fit so I'm looking for picture of 18s, 19s, and 20s on a 4th gen f-body...camaro is prefered. I do like the two on top though!

Johnnystock Aug 27, 2011 02:22 PM

19'' is the biggest you wanna go IMO, unless you find a nice set that looks good and not pimp, which is very rare..

CHRIZ28 Aug 28, 2011 08:55 PM

I think LMC has a black car they used for the standing mile that had black/polished wheels they used for show on it. Looked good to me.

Camarosteve44 Aug 28, 2011 09:53 PM

I would not do 20's too much of a european BMW look
