Default New NT05's

I had some new NT05's installed yesterday morning just in time for a couple of days of rain. How many miles to get these things broken in?

I switched from Dunlop Star Spec 265/40/17 on Enkei Win3 17x9.5 all around to 315/35/17 AFS 17x11 50mm ZR1 replicas all around. I used the same AFS wheels previously with Dunlop 290-645R17 slicks and Hoosier A6 and Kumho V710 DOT slicks. The A6's were slightly wider dismounted than the mounted NT05's.

Obviously not broken in yet. I've noticed the front end likes to push in wet conditions, and 2nd gear spins easily in dry conditions. I hope they're pretty close to the Star Specs in the wet and better in the dry.

How much tread depth did the Star Specs have. The NT-05's come with just over 7/32nds. They will probably never be a great rain tire.

You daily drove the A6s or just autoxed them? If so the NT05 will be MUCH better in the wet compared to them.

Dunlop says starting tread depth on the Star Specs is 8/32, I don't know what the ending depth was. I didn't daily drive the A6's (just AX), although I drove them a couple of hours home from events twice. Once when it was slightly raining and that was nerve-racking. The Star Specs were the previous DD tire. I'll give it tank of gas and then see how they feel.

I have the NT05's and love them, I have never had a problem in the rain they are actually quite good imo, I drove them about 100 miles or so, then tested them from a dig and they spun like crazy through 1st and 2nd and that must have broke them in because after that they hook on the street everytime and handle really well too.

I also have some NT05's (295/35R18), and they hook pretty damn well for a street tire. You just have to get em heated up. All Nitto's have been known for needing a more thorough burnout than say... some Mickeys. But once you get up heated, they hook. If you wana get even more grip try deflating to a conservative 25psi or lower if you're at the strip.

Good advice.

Super chevy mag actually did a test vs the ET street radial, and they went all the way down to 14 psi in the rear tires. These were with the NT05R tires, which are a drag radial.
