So my car is a 97 z28 30th anniversary, I just put on a set of 18" front 19" rear chrome C6 rims & tires. The rears came with a spacer that pushes them out a bit, and the fronts bolted right up.

Now for some reason when hitting bumps or dips in the road, the car is getting yanked/drifting a good amount. It didn't do it with the stock wheels, and it didn't do it with the 17" C6 Z06 wheels I just had on here. Everything in the front end is all good and tight, it only started right after I put these wheels on.


What's the deal ?

1. Get an alignment.
2. You went with wider/bigger wheels (assuming so). This in itself makes the wheels pull you over the road depending on how bad your roads are.

1 - My alignment is good. My front end is good. I said that already. It's perfectly fine and doesn't do it with both the stock wheels or the 17" C6 Z06's (275/40/17)

2 - The rim itself is bigger in front (18"), but the tires in front are only 245/40/18, same width as stock. Like I said it doesn't do it with the stock wheels and the 275/40/17 Z06's...

I've never had anything bigger than 17's on a F body but I have on other cars and haven't experienced this. I have 2 Z28's and it's these wheels, it does the same thing on both cars

Wide tires are causing it. And yes, it is fixable... Get narrower tires

Also, you can go with a softer sidewall.

Running a little less air I've noticed helps, as well. It could also be caused by having a little too much play in the steering rack. It wouldn't actually CAUSE it, per se, but it WOULD make it more noticable.

wide tires + crappy roads.
I went from stock 16s with 225s to 18s with 255 & 295s and it was a huge difference.

OK I'll check the tire PSI and see what it's at.. it's just weird because only these wheels are doing it, and the front tires are the same size as factory. The last set I put on it were wider, 275/40/17 and I had no problems. But with these 245/40/18 front 285/35/19 rears w/ spacers, it's pretty damn bad.

It's also doing it when I hit the brakes, car and steering wheel is pulling all over....

Are there any other possibilities? I know with the rear spacers the rims aren't I guess hubcentric anymore, it's just the lugs holding everything tight/flush. No idea what's causing this but I'm bummed, these wheels look great and if I can fix this I might be pulling them off

Well like they said its the tires. Wore out suspension components make it worse but the tires are to blame. Some tires are worse than others about it even with the same size. Even if the fronts are the same the rears play a role too. I went from a 245 to a 295 on my truck and its all over the place on bad roads when nothing else on the truck changed.

So you guys think it's not a big deal? It's just making the ride bad, and when I'm trying to have fun the handling is all over the place, very unpredictable.

my alignment guy keeps telling me the cars alignment will change with a different wheel and tire set up (doesn't make sense to me) so you may want to have it checked out atleast. Maybe a little more negative camber would help? not sure

Like you said your front tires are the same width but are they set in the wheel well same? Or do they stick out more and even with the fender? I had the same problem, I was running 275/40/17's on zr1 w/ 38mm back spacing, switched to same wheel but w/ 56mm spacing, same tire. Problem solved
