Default Corvette Z06 Wheels on 2000 Trans Am WS-6

Hello,

This is my first time posting on this site, but I look forward to receiving quality feedback and information from fellow F-body and LS1 enthusiasts.

Yesterday, I purchased 4 factory Corvette Z06 rims for my 2000 Trans Am WS6. The factory WS6 rims are 17x9 and have almost new 275/40/17 Toyo Proxy 4 tires all around. The Z06 wheels are 17x9.5 in front and 18x10.5 in the rear.

I plan on switching the front tires from the factory wheels to the front 17x9.5 Z06 wheels and should have no problem doing so. Obviously, I will need to purchase new tires for the 18x10.5 rear Z06 wheels and would like to stick with the Toyo Proxy 4. My question to the LS1Tech community is what size tires can I run on the new 18x10.5 rear Z06 wheels and not have any fitment or rubbing issues? I do not want to make any modifications and would like to run as wide of a tire as possible but if there is ANY possibility that the tires will rub, I will opt for the next smaller size.

Another concern which others should be able to answer is the factory Traction Control System. If the back tires are larger than the front, will it trip the TCS into thinking that I am spinning the tires when I am just cruising along? Would this mean I have to run a 35 sidewall tire in the rear to compensate for the 1” larger wheel? Has anybody done this before and does it look stupid with 2 different width sidewalls?

Please help!

Additional Information:

The car is NOT lowered. Hopefully these wheels will fill the arches a little better and I wont need to lower the car any.

a tire size for the 18x10.5 will vary. Some guys can run 315's with no mods, some cant. Personally i have 295's with 18x10.5 in the back and had to do the BFH mod a little (im lowered as well). So if you really want no issues at all, go with a 285 rear tire.

Now the different sidewalls doesnt look dumb IMO, you can go to the "got OEWheels" thread and see all the different combos on wheels and tires.

Finally, i dont have TCS on my car, so idk if it will effect your TCS or not. Hope this helps.

Just got in from test fitting the 18x10.5 rears. With the suspension fully extended there is less than 1/8" between the top, inside lip of the rim and the bump stop for the suspension. Compressed its away from the bump stop but the tire is most likely going to rub the inside of the wheel well in front of the axle. I think a spacer would resolve this without any sort of modification. Pardon my ignorance but what is a BFH mod?

I had to run a quarter inch spacer on the rear of mine just to give it a little more clearance for the bump stop. I'm lowered 1.5in and running a 295/35/18 no rubbing rides nice.

I assume the offsets on the corvette rear rims are the same from your C5 wheels to my C6 wheels. 56mm?

Did you notice if the inside of the wheel well in front of the axle and bump stops were going to interfer with the tires on your car? The immediate risk is the bump stops but when I compress the axle to where its going to ride then the wheel well at that point is less than an inch away.

I'd post pictures on here but I dont know how. Enlighten me and I will post pics.

I don't have much clearance to the fender maybe a half inch but never had any rubbing even when on bump stops

Over the weekend I picked up two 1/2" spacers. this should give the wheel plenty of space but I feel that I still might not have enough room between the tire and the inside of the wheel well.

Not a fan of the BFH mod. There is a right and wrong way to do everything.

I need to get this staightened out before spending $300 on powder coating the rims and another $800-1,500 on tires but then in order to know if it works I need the tires. Its a vicious circle...

Speaking of tires. Does anyone have any recommendations at to brand and model? I've been looking at the BFG G-Force KDWs but read a lot of negative reviews regarding tire noise. Also looking at the Bridgestone Potenza RE760s. Any other suggestions. Looking to spend less than a grand for 4 tires. The fronts need to have a matching style but in a size to fit the back rims.

When you put the spacers on the rear you mite want to run et lugs to give you more turns on the lugs. And I'm running the firestone wide ovals on mine and they hold up pretty good.

I plan on counting the number of turns I get on the lugs. Someone told me it should be a minimum of 5.

5 Turns is NO WHERE NEAR Enough! I had Stupid Shops years ago put new rims on a car and as it turned out they only had 5 turns on the lug nuts and nearly killed two cops giving someone a ticket on the other side of the road when the wheel fell off after the lug nuts stripped and the wheel fell off! If the guy getting the ticket hadnt pushed the cops out of the way there would have been two dead cops from a bouncing tire hitting them in the back at 50mph!

I haven't counted the number of turns for the factory wheels but its cant be much more than that.

With the spacers and the z06 wheels on I was only able to get 1 turn! Far from safe.

Due to needing to extend the the bolts, buying bigger spacers and new tires which STILL may not fit my car, I have decided to sell the rear Z06 wheels in favor for 2 more 17x9.5 fronts. That way I know they will fit and will not need to buy new tires or deal with modifying the car in any other way. If you are interested I will be selling the rears for $250 each. Check my posts for pictures and more information.

I uploaded to Flickr but none of the linking options I see have those on each side of it.

Any ideas?
