P285/40ZR18 Nitto NT555s rubbing against front fender; what 18" size will fit?
Hello. I have 18x9.5" Forgeline RS 5-spokes. The front tires I use are the
P285/40/ZR18 Nitto 555s and they have been rubbing against the back of the fender whenever I back up at an angle. What tire size can I use with my wheels that won't rub? Thank you in advance for any info.

I will buy a pair for the front and talk to a body shop to see how they can repaint the rubbed off area in the fender. I wish I did this research before I chose my tire size a few years ago.

Here's a link to the tire size calculator I like to use:

The stock 16" tire on our car was the 245/50/16 which is a 26.65" tall tire. As you can see, the 285/40/18 tire your running right now is a 1.33" taller!
I've run 16", 17", 18", and yes, even 19" rims on my Z28. On all of my 17"-19" rims I've always run a 275 width tire (275/40/17, 275/35/18, & 275/30/19). The 275 width tire has always rubbed slightly in the front inner fender wells, but only slightly on the plastic and only when the wheel was turned all the way one direction or the other. Never really causes problems under normal driving and even when it does rub, it's just rubbing the plastic inner fender well slightly. I'm also lowered with Strano/Koni set-up.
A 285/35/18 tire is only 0.2" taller than stock, but 1.57" wider. You'll probably rub slightly in the front on the inner fender well when the wheel is turned all the way L or R, but it shouldn't be too bad.
My main concern for you is the ABS sensor if you're going to stay with a 40 series tire on the rear. If you go from a 285/40/18 on the rear to a 275 or 285/35/18 tire in the front, it'll be over an inch difference front to rear and our ABS doesn't like a tire difference front to rear of over an inch. It will most likely set off the ABS light and may even cause ABS problems.
Unfortunately, you have 2 options IMO. Either replace all 4 tires with a 35 series 18" tire or live with your current 40 series tires.

i ran 285/35/18 in the back for years. never had an issue. your wheel offset will determine if you will rub. I have gone back to a 275/35/18 on all 4 corners setup and have no issues. my current wheels are 40mm offset. the old wheels were 50 or 56mm. overall, i like the 275/35 set up on all 4 corners.
