Default Need help figuring out tire size for rear rims 17/18 set ups

I have 275/40/17's on the front of my car, but it came with 315 hosier A6's on the rear, I want to go with a 295 or 305, but can't seem to figure out what sidewall height. Any help? I do want as much sidewall as I can get without rubbing, no plans on lowering the car as my x pipe already scrapes on my driveway approach.

Also tire brand suggestions would be helpful. Its a six speed car and will see the track a little bit, on the stock 10 bolt for now with a 100 shot. Dont want anything crazy sticky as I'd rather have the peddle it than snap a rear ( have a spare incase it lets loose before I spring for a 9 inch. ) I was thinking Nitto's would be nice. Car will see wet streets here and there as well, so need something thats a little more forgiving.

This is the tire size calculator I like to use:

I've run Bridgestone on my Z28 several years ago. I liked them, but I have no experience with the RE760's.

What width is your rear wheel? I'm running 285/35r18s out back with a similar set up because they were basically free.

FYI, a 295/35/18 needs at least a 18 x 10 inch wheel.

I run 275/35-18 front and 295/35-18 rear on 18x10 wheels. And according to looking at my tires and looking at the Tire Rack tire specs, the 10" wheel is the minimum width for the 295. Once you get into 18s and 19s you have a lot less sidewall to fudge with mismatched tire/wheel widths.

275/40R17 & 295/35R18. You can get Nitto NT05's in that combo...

Thanks for the replies!

My rear wheels are 10.5 I believe, they have 315's on them now just fine...

I am sort of in-between the 315-35-18 Toyo Proxes TQ and the 295-35-18 Nitto 555R.

The Toyo's are a bit cheaper, but I really didn't want to run a 315 tire. Ive had 315's before on an f-body and currently do, but I've always had problems with scrubbing and dealing with rolling fenders ext, that I am really not wanting to deal with on this car. Plus I want to be able to carry 3 passengers ( gf buddy/buddies gf ) without worrying about scrubbing.

I might consider a 315 555r as they seem to run a bit narrow, the 315 hoosiers I have now rub with one person in the back seat.

I'll grab some 15's for the track with M/T's on them, just looking for a decent street tire that will do a decent job of hooking up and if I get caught in the rain won't kill me lol.
