Default Toyo Proxes R888 VS TQ

Hey guys i have a M6 f1 procharged 2000 trans am putting down around 600 hp and im looking to put the power down the best i can. I have a set of rims that have been three pieced so i can fit 315's on there.

Toyo Proxes R888 $272, TQ $186

Im looking for some ppl that have had both on a car with 500+ hp. I just wondering is the R888 worth $100 more per tire. I don't mind spending the money if the rubber is that much better???

thanks guys

I believe both have the same tire compound just one has a stiffer sidewall.

I guess my next question would be who has used the TQ on the street driving around town and how bad is it going around turns and what not??

The R888 have a stiffer sidewall and will corner better if you want to do more than go straight. Well worth it to me cause going straight gets boring.

OP: you've started this thread and brought two up from the grave on the same subject. Hopefully you're getting the info you need without any more threads.

I've run the TQ's for about a year and I've found the tread has gotten hard over time with DD use. They didn't get very sticky the last time I burned out. And they don't stick at all in the cold (like probably all other DR's and summer tires). A light jab of the throttle the other day had me sitting and spinning while the Lexus next to me took off like a shot out of a cannon.

Yea sorry for bringing it up in a couple different post but its hard to get people to answer questions on the tire subject without asking in a few post. I know its a question that everyone ask and its asked way to much on these forms but its something that I would rather ask on the site than buy 2 different sets of tires to find out that they wont hold the power or they don't work well on highways or something like that when someone has had the experience. (all the tires that I'm asking about, im sure that 30% of members on here have used and u get one or two guys answering)

TQ are a drag tire designed for straight line launching. The R888 is a competition tire with going around corners so the sidewall construction is significantly different. I think handling is important for a street car so would recommend the R888.

NT05R handle well and stick somewhat. Also part of the Toyo family under Nitto. So that's not a bad choice either - it's a different compound than the R888 or TQ tho and is softer.

For a street driven car definitely the R888s. I have the TQs and they are amazing for straight line hooks but I can feel the softness of the sidewall when doing just regular turns at stoplights and whatnot when driving on the street with them.
