Default Looking for a winter tire that will get WOT traction.

Hey guys, I'm wanting to get a set of winter tires for the back of the car that will not be too dangerous in the event I decide to do some WOT pulls at high boost. There is a set of MT 275 et pro's on the car right now. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Won't find a true winter tire that'll hook anywhere close to an all out r-compound tire, but you may have luck with a Nitto 555R, Toyo Proxes TQ or maybe a Nitto NT05.

Depends on what sort of winter conditions you are facing. In my region, the only way to get proper winter traction with a 4th gen is when using a true snow/ice tire, and none of those are well suited to WOT action or high speed stability.

The Tire you seek does not exist. Things that make a tire grip well in the winter oppose things that make summer drag radial style tires hook up. Tires that are very good in snow and ice include the Bridgestone Blizzak or Michelin XICE series. They are not performance rated and trying to hook up/burnout will lead to there quick end.

Lol, not too much snow. But it does get cold out here in Lubbock. I ran the NT05r on my heads/cam car and they do ok. It was probably a stupid question in the first place. Traction with turbo cars is hard to get in the heat, let alone the cold. Oh well.

Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah, I was actually born and raised in Ohio. West texas doesn't get the amount of snow the north sees, but it will get down in the teens and even single digits.

Fair, I just moved to the midwest from SoCal so I'm planning on just garaging the Camaro starting here in a week or 2...it's depressing.

Yeah, the car will likely be in my storage unit for most of the winter. But, running e85 dictates I drive it or at least start it every week or two...still cheaper than race gas, though.

The car ran a season with e85, then sat for a year. Got the injectors installed, and several were almost completely inoperable. Sent them to be cleaned...problem solved. Maybe it's a regional thing.

It may be regional with the injectors as I haven't had that problem however over the winter months I run the tank dry and put 93 octane in and let them go through the injectors every week or couple of weeks. Since you are in texas stop dicking around and get some Pro Radials. You'll be fine.

Question; are the UHP all seasons (BFG g Force super sport all season, Michelin Pilot AS3, etc.) compounded for down to 10-15* F ambients in bone DRY weather, or do even they turn into blocks of ice at those temps??

IF so, what temps ARE they good for (to have 'acceptable', and not dangerous cornering/braking traction?

A can not speak directly to those. However, I was out driving last night and had a noticeable loss in traction from my NT-05's. Temp was in the low 60's and it was nightime so the pavement did not have any help from the sun. Cornering grip wasn't bad, I also didn't throw it into a corner like I would when its warmer, is just struggled to get the power down. I had the rear end step out a a little under a heavy throttle input during a quicker lane change (got cut off badly).

Those mentioned are probably, much better at low temps, but at 10-15 I would think any rubber compound is going to be way down on potential grip.

Pro 275's already on the rear. Guess they're about as good as it gets, eh?

I;ve got a set of Nitto Motivo's. They are rated all season tires. So far, they handle well in rain. Don't know about cold yet, but will know soon. They're 315/35 17 and will likely not see snow though it is my daily driver.
