Nails & Nitto's This morning I find out that the rear passenger tire went flat. I thought it was flat because it was park on the round curb. But after driving awhile, I noticed it was flat again. So I check it out and find a nail with the head the size of my thumb. Question is, is it alright to go to the tire shop to patch up a drag radial. Or ask the company I bought it from for a new tire. Thanks |
I don't think the company were you bought it from will give you a new tire. I would like to know also if it is ok to patch it up also. |
I doubt whoever you bought it from would replace the tire for a new one, especially if it is punctured on the contact patch. Maybe if it were on the sidewall and if you had the warranty on it, but still doubtful. Anyways, I have a patch on one of my nittos and have had it on for over a year now with no ill effects. I've taken her up to speeds of about 115 on the highway and everything is fine. Heck, I've even done a few passes at the drag strip with these same tires. You'll be fine. |
Thank you very much Krab. An answer that I was looking for. I just had a little wishful thinking about getting a new tire. Thanks again |
Iv'e had my nittos patched up before and made a 12 second pass the next day. You'll be fine. |
I talked with a tire guy at good year about this once and he said it should be fine until you have really worn the tires out then you need to be careful |
I have heard that the MT ET's you cannot fix the flat on there is this true. |
I have also had a plug on a Nitto (left rear), drove a couple thousand more miles on it, and made several passes at the track on it. From my experience, it will still provide good service with a patch/plug. |
My only concern with patching or plugging a drag radial is when you do a burnout you may end up pulling the plug loose or even out of the tire.... not a good thing when your getting ready to do in excess of 100mph in under 13 seconds. Be very careful... its like a penzoil add, spend a little now, or a lot later. Just think long term rather than short term. |
I went to the gas station to get a patch. THe guy tells me he doesn't have the equipment to get the wide ass tire off. So i just tell him to go ahead and plug it. BUt I'm not cool w/ a plug. My question is can I repatch the tire even though there is a plug in it? Thanks |
Most places do not plug anymore because a patch is so much better because its on the inside when a plug is exactly that a plug so a plug could get pulled out much easier then a patch getting torn since the patch is on the inside of the tire |
