Nitto G2's

Anyone have the Nitto G2's that can comment on how they handle and hook up? I'm waiting to get my car back within the next week or two from getting Heads, cam, LS6 intake, long tubes, new steering rack, rebuilt tranny and Circle D Convertor :D ... just waiting on the tune and Dyno. But I'm overdue on a set of tires bad! Builder suggested Mickey Thompson's for the rears but from what I've read they don't last long. And I have zero plans of going to the track, the car is a DD summer car.

I'm planning to try them but haven't ordered yet.

The original 555 is one of the best budget tires available in proper sizes so if Nitto regards the G2 as an improvement in both wet and dry traction I will be very impressed.

I think the G2 are $8-10 more per tire than the old 555.

If you expect them to hook a head/cam/stalled car though you will be sorely disappointed. You are going to need a full blown drag radial and a good one at that.

Thank you for the reply. I'm thinking I should take the builders advice and just get the Mickey Thompson's. I have to check on their street tires for the front as replacements. I'd rather keep the same brand front and back just to look better....if they are good quality.

I have g2's. Only have about 500 miles on them. I have 295/40/18 rears and I couldn't spin them on wet concrete...maybe my car just doesn't have any balls. They handle well though. Don't feel squishy in the corners. 275/40/17 on the front.

That's interesting, and good to hear because I'd rather get a good performance tire than just a ET tire. Thanks

i have the 555g2 in 275 40 17 and they are okay . They handle pretty well but the traction is an issue . On a prepped track rental they were amazing .

bc i wanted more i went to 315 35 17 555r on some widened stock wheels and those hook up in 1st gear . With heads cam and converter your going to need a drag radial otherwise 1st gear and some of second wont be fun .

I should mention I really have no plans on going to the track. The car will be a street car. I just did the upgrades because I love the car and have no plans of selling it and thought it was due for some updates. I'm looking for a good street tire.
