Default How Do People Like Those Nitto NT05 fronts and NT05r rears? Input

Recently purchased NITTO NT05 fronts (275/40/17) and already have the NT05R backs (175/40/17). I love the rears I've had them for several hundred miles.

From everything I've read people love those NT05's on the street, NITTO designed the NT05 and NTO5R to pair together (just like their NT555 and NT555R).

What does everyone else run or think about this set up?

On chrome ss ten spoke wheels.

I'm running 295/35/18 NT05s on all 4 corners of my car and love them, I've been getting about 5 seasons out of a set (I have a square set so rotate front to back every season). thinking I may have to step up to the NT05r in the rear once I get my car up and running with the turbo but we'll see

I was looking at the NT555 GEN II, but then I kept reading NITTO's site where they paired them together.

NT555 front / NT555R back

NT05 front / NT05R rear

Then again that is only a suggestion. Worst case scenario is I hate them and order the NT555 version one or their GEN II.

I do love them NT05r out back though. I'm just bolt on's with full UMI suspension and boy does it bite and hook.

i love the lateral grip that the nt05's have on the front, i push my car pretty hard on back roads (without traffic) and on/off ramps and have never had it understeer. i think you'll be happy with the nt05's on the front

How do the nt05r handle with corners? Im not expecting auto x results but is it a lil less better than a normal street tire?

The Nt05r is a very good all around radial when traction, handling, mileage ect are considered.

That's the setup I have and love it. Factory sized with factory rims. The rears grip like crazy with a touch of heat. Great all around setup and I researched the LIVING **** out of it before I pulled the trigger. There are a couple of guys who road race with r's on the back, zero issues.

I am in a little dilemma here. I have an 00 SS full bolt ons with some new BF Goodrich 275/40/17s on stock wheels (non ZR1s). I want ZR1 wheels and have come down to 2 options. Do I A, get some brand new 17 x 9.5 all around which the tires I have will go go right on or option B, get a used set of ZR1s I found for $400 that will come with some 315 NT555s that have 90% tread left. The used ZR1s are black and I am wanting some silvers. I would really get the black ones so I can get the tires since price is good.

Orrrrr, I get the 17 x 9.5s, put them on the BFs I have, and when those are done I go with the NT05s?

I don't get much traction on a 1st gear punch with the BFs. So this is another question I have for down the road....say I get the 17 x 9.5 silvers and down the road I get the NT5s. How much better will my traction be on those? How much comparison is a really good drag radial 275 going to compare to a 315 NT555. Based on my research, I'm reading that some really good 275 radials like Michelins, NT5s, etc. are going to grip close as good to a 295-315 and the difference won't be dramatic. Example - you see alot of the high HP Mopars these days coming with what you'd think are too thin 285s from the factory but they come with some good radials. Yes that's for them to save money but those grip pretty good.

Right now I'm leaning more towards just getting the new silvers and putting them on the new BFs that were on the car when I bought it and down the road getting a better 275.

I could definitely get the black ZR1 package, sell the wheels, and get some silver 17 x 11s for the rear to put the NT555s on. And also sell the BFs. I'd about break even after all said and done...especially if I sell the stock wheels I have on now.

I'm more of a weekend cruiser and occasionally get on it in first gear, so that said I am not CRAVING the stickiness. Which is why I am leaning more towards just getting new silvers put on existing BFs. Car is not lowered.

Thoughts, opinions?

Ran this setup on my boosted Bird. I blame the NT05R in combination with the BMR Torque Arm I put in for putting my 10 bolt out to pasture. Was only a matter of time i suppose with 750rwhp being shoved at it.

Tires do ok when wet, nothing I would seek out but if caught in rain it isn't horrible to drive. Did drive them a few times when temps got around freezing temps and could feel that they were on the edge of grip when hitting my normal corners at speed, definitely like to be warm.

Put on new wheels for bigger brakes and give them to brother in law for his Camaro. He instantly noticed on his bolt on car he had no more traction issues. Waiting on the call for the spare 10 bolt guts I have sitting on the shelf.

Would love to run the same setup again but don't think I can get them in the size I need now.

It works well and handles well. I have a 275 NT05 315 NT05R combo.
