Default 275 vs 295...

I am looking at tires for my car. Going to do the race star rims. Just trying to figure out what tire to do.
Im torn between the 275 and 295. Would do the 295a if the 275a werent $100 cheaper each.
My car has made 502whp 506 torque. The tires on it now are a literal joke.

Anyone have ave any advise?

I don't race my 2000 TA. I can give you my experience on the street. I dynoed 414 to the wheels and have run 275s on Firehawk rims and now run 295s on Z06 rims. Knowing how to drive my car since it's been 16 yrs owning her I can absolutely hook better and more consistently with the 295s and both sets are all seasons. Do they spin in the winter .....sometimes and honestly it's when I just go ***** to the wall and don't care about control. Are they easier to get to hook once you get the feel? For me yes.

all depends on the compound and wheel width. for starters, what size wheels are you going with?

Cool Billet Specialties, 17X11 W/315/35

Here is what my Billet Specialties look like mocked up.... Just to give you an idea. I couldn't figure out how to attach them to a PM. Sorry about that.

Kinda dumb for anyone to pick a tire size if you dont state what your intentions are with the car, or what gears you have

With the kind of power you are making don't waste your time with 275's
there is just not enough rubber to ground
You should be looking at 305's or 315's on an 11" wheel

I have 4.10s in the car.
I want the car to go low 12s to high 11s at 5000 feet about sea level.
Currently the car went 13.1 at 115. With a 2.4 60ft. On a old tires.

4.10's at that power on tires that are 26"....you may run out of gear. May need to go to a 28" tire.

Also what tires are we talking here? Are people saying a 275 MT ET hooks worse on the street than a 295 MT ET at that power level?

I agree. A 28 would work better for my current setup. Does a 28 bolt right on or is there some fender modification involved?
I am more curious in general. I am actually leaning towards a 305 or a 315. For traction reasons.

I run 28in pro bracket radials and didn't have to do any modifications. Going to a 28in slick, I will have to do some cutting

I've ran the 28x10.5 slick but it's rubbing. I will have to roll my fenders and clearance the valance although the slick has already done a pretty good job of that. I was going through the trap around 6500 in 4th and I'm thinking maybe the 26X10 would be a better choice.

What kinds of tires? Are we talking Nittos or MT ET street SS?

My post on needing to go bigger tire with 4.10s at that power level was assuming 4L60E as the trans so no shift into overdrive (4th) before the traps.
