DR's help in normal street hookup?
 

Do these seem to grip better without heating them up (burnout), to anyone out there that runs them on the street? That Vig makes wheel spin a bit much at times. :jest:

NO!!! If I dont heat up my nittos before I race someone I will spin like crazy :burn:. I warm mine up before any race.

So it'd be better to stick with a good street tire like the BFG KD's I've had my eyes on?

Probobly, I think thats what I am doing next, My DR are just beating the hell out of my 1/4 pannel :( . Lots of rock chips.

I noticed a bit of a difference without a burnout, I guess it all depends on how important unexpected races on the street are to you.

IMHO w/o heatup they are no better than the BF Goodrich KD's I was running, I was expecting to get some grab, still can't floor it in 1st or second from a roll without massive wheelspin, heat em up though and they are a totally different creature, of course doing a burnout on the street in stoplight wars is pretty nuts with the cops the way they are these days let alone the innocent people who freak out and get killed

If you've been cruizing on them for 30 minutes or more, they'll be plenty hot enough to give you some extra stick, but any kind of moisture or sand and they light right up. :cheers:

I have been known to warm them up at stop lights :devil: Only if it is a race that would be worth it of course.

With my 398rwhp LT1 Firebird, drag radials worked great on the factory 16" wheels, where there is still quite a bit of sidewall. On etched concrete, they worked great on the street. I could do a healthy burnout and it would bog the motor at a 3300-3500rpm launch.

I now have 17x11 Torque Thrust IIs on the car with Sumitomos and its virtually worthless on the street. I had a set of 315/35/17 drag radials on my old YS-Trim blower car and they did absolutely nothing for the car on the street.

Yeah, DR's are useless w/o being heated first.

Mine grab alot better than the stock F1's on the street! But, I'm at stock power level, maybe much different with more power, hope to find out soon!

with 377rwhp and a vig3200 I think my nitto's do a hell of a lot better than street tires ever did. I run them full time as a street tire. Normal radials are worthless. Then again, an arguement could be made that any modded LS1 is worthless on anything less than an ET street.

I run Nittos all the time.I heat them up with a nice 10 second burnout before I race,it makes a hell of a difference,I also drop the pressure to 20 psi.

The T/A is way to loose in the rear with stock radials. I feel that the nittos are a much safer tire to run. I don't drive my T/A in the rain though.

What tires do work well on the street?

i dont know about the rest of you but my 16" nittos are way better than stock tires, now i can waste them both, but the nittos dont waste as long before hooking up. :jest: and they hook way better trying to take off on the street as long as you have been driving for 10min or better

BFG drag radials hook up good without a burnout.

i agree, you really have to heat them up to get good traction...i use to run 12.89 on a street tire, then switched to a nitto without heating them up and ran a 13.11

drags hook up real good on the street with a nice burn out. me and my buds used to do alot of street racing here houston at ranken road and holmes road and nittos did wonders for us. won us alot of money
