Default ZR1 wHEELS 17 BY 11 IN REAR

I just purchased zr1 replica wheels that are 17 by 11 in the rear and 17 by 9.5 in the front how hard will it be to mount the wheels in the back. My car is an 02 ss camaro with a one inch lowering kit, eibach pro-kit. The rear tires are 315 mm wide. Thanks and any knowledge would be appreciated.

Which offset did you get? It should be printed on the box. It's either 36 or 50mm. I have the same wheels on my '02 Z28. If you got the 50mm offset, you may need to do a little massaging on the inner fenderwell. It sits pretty close. You may have to take a BFH and hammer in the sheetmetal of the wheelwell. Lowering the car makes it a little more difficult to get a perfect fit. Do you have an adjustable Panhard rod? You definitely need one to make them fit. The rearend must be centered, or one wheel will rub the inner fender and the other will stick out past the fender. Trimming the bumpstops isn't required, but the wheels will hit them with the suspension at full rebound (like when the car is on a lift and the wheels hang down), so if you don't shave them down you will have to lift the car by the rear axle to mount them. If you got the 36mm offset, you still need the adjustable Panhard rod, but the clearance issue is with the quarterpanel. You'll have to have the lips rolled, because your car is lowered. The work is worth it, though.

Yeah, I hope you got the 56/50mm offset style. That's the Grand Sport offset.

I agree w/ everything tooslow said.

You don't NEED an adjustable panhard rod. I'm lowered w/ 38mm ZR-1s 17x11 w/ a non-adjustable panhard rod w/o problems.

Just roll the lips, and BFH mod and you'll be OK.

Firebird rear wheel wells are bigger than Camaros. That little bit of room makes a pretty big difference. With the 36mm ZR1 offset (50mm is the Grand Sport) the wheels sit farther out away from the inner wheelwell, so an adjustable panhard rod isn't needed (on a Firebird). With the 50mm offset, it's required 99% of the time on a lowered car. You can try running without one, just check frequently to see if it is rubbing (you'll hear it).

They are like $100. Check ebay for the best deals.

The Firebird has the same outer wheel house as the Camaro, therefore they have the same demensions/clearance. If you look at the pinch weld in the front of the wheel house there is a wide spot that has been painted black from the factory. this is there because of the deep recess in the body side of the Camaro that the Pontiac does not have. But it still uses the Camaro outer wheel well so the gap had to be filled in, the factory tried to hide this by painting the erea black. One of several ways to save money.
