Default Biggest tire on SS wheels

What is the largest tire I can put on my SS rims and still squeeze in the wheel well?

If they are the stock 9" wheels then you should go no larger than a 275 width tire. It will fit no problem, as it was the factory SS setup.

285/40ZR17 is the absolute largest manufacturer recommended tire for a 9" wide wheel . . .

I've been running a 285/40/17 for about a year and a half now (front and back). No issues at all. I don't think you can go any bigger than that, though.
