Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval's

Has anyone used/heard about these tires? They have 275/40/17's for $130/ea and 295/35/18's for $155/ea. They're a 320 treadwear and a W speed rating.

Basically it's either those tires, or Kuhmo MX's. This car is mainly a street car with strip time a couple weekends a month.

Shinsetsu Feb 6, 2005 03:50 AM

i have mx's and they ae goodi really like them but for my size they are too much $$ 295/35/18 but the others are cheaper and if i dont trade my wheels i will prolly try them

ritz Feb 7, 2005 08:08 AM

Yeah I wanna know too.

Goodrich Feb 11, 2005 08:29 PM

ttt Ive seen these tires for some amazing prices. Anyone have them yet?

Goodrich Feb 17, 2005 03:31 PM

Well, I just ordered a set of 4 along with some Z06 rims so I will let everyone know what I think of them after a few burnouts :burn:

ritz Feb 17, 2005 09:20 PM

I just received my 295/35/18's and man are they nice. Very deep tread and very nice tread pattern. I paid 400 shipped for both of them and recieved them immediately.

I took a couple shots of them...

I figured I'd throw sumitumo HTR+ tires in here. I'm on my third set. They're cheap, last a long time, and hook good. Great in the wet. Tirerack.com for less then $100 a piece for 275/40/17.

Like them 10x more then kumhos

Goodrich Feb 18, 2005 09:36 AM

Yeah Tirerack is the bomb :bomb: I ordered the Wide Ovals in 295/35/18 and 275/40/17 for $713.00 shipped. And the guy called me back and upgraded my shipping to 3 day cuz they had to send them out of a different warehouse so I wouldnt have to wait to get them. I need em bad too...the yokes I have on now look like slicks!

AHHH THIS SUCKS! I have 2 brand new rear tires sitting downstairs, 2 almost new front tires sitting outside, but I'm waiting on my wheels to be finished. I'm having a clearcoat powdercoated on them. I wish I could get the call today since I'm off.

Redlinez Feb 18, 2005 03:42 PM

Wow, they look sweet!! I thought by the name they were some old school tire or something. Are they the Firehawk replacement? I bet they're just fine.

ritz Feb 18, 2005 03:52 PM

I have no idea, but the looks alone make it worth the money haha. There's a guy at my job with a CLEAN 3rd gen Camaro, 355, etc. He had them and said they hooked good.

pewter99tam Feb 20, 2005 03:13 PM

these tires wouldn't be hooking good enough to compete with nittos or bfg's correct?

Goodrich Feb 20, 2005 03:41 PM

The Wide Ovals are a throwback to tires they used to make in the 60's. I think they used to be standard on the vette. They are just now re-releasing them (probably cuz Firestone has kind of a bad rep from a few years ago) so Im not sure how they compare to the BFGs or Nittos yet. But theyre cheap, and I go through tires quickly!

Here is an article I found on the net about them. http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/041108-5.htm :)

Well while I was at work my dad put my Z06's on in which I have Wide Ovals on the rear. I just took it out for a spin and had BAD wheelhop, so I came home. My dad talked to me about how all his Chevelle's he had had terrible wheelhop because of his coil springs. I talked to him about LCA's and relocation brackets, etc. He said well lets go outside and light them up a few times, sometimes that helps.

What do you know I went outside and did a couple burnouts and no wheelhop. :D

Shinsetsu Feb 21, 2005 12:07 AM

well hook or not? lol

ritz Feb 21, 2005 08:28 AM

I'll let you know tonight. Last night when I punched it in first they didn't they just hopped. They are very sticky though. The whole day down my street I just heard pebbles and shit hitting inside of my fenderwells.

ritz Feb 21, 2005 10:02 PM

Well I finally tested them out a little bit. They aren't too bad. I didn't really try to launch the car, but I was messing around at a stoplight and I felt them bite. As far as shifting my car has always chirpped the 2 or spun through 2nd, but it's in no way shape or form fast. With these when I hit 2nd it feels solid, the wheels don't spin/chirp and my clutch isn't slipping they just bite, but it's not a hard bite, but maybe that's just my car.

Overall I love them.

Shinsetsu Feb 24, 2005 02:48 PM

so they are worth 186?

ritz Feb 24, 2005 09:16 PM

Yes definitely.
