Default Goodyear GS-D3's...275 or 285 for 17x9

I need some help/opinions here please. I've decided to go for the GSD3s over 555R's, but I'm not sure about what size....they're available in 275/40-17 and 285/40-17 (I'm fitting these on stock SS rims). Would the 285s fit safely and help traction (concerned w/ off-the-line grip, not turns) a noticeable amount over 275s? Thanks!

The GS-D3's are rather wide in stick sizes, so IMHO, I'd stick with the 275/40ZR17, they "look" wide. ")

just go for the 275. i put them on last week. and yes they do appear to be wider. i think its because the tread pattern starts 3/4 of the way up the sidewall.
i love this tire. it hooks hard and rides great.

A Nitto 555R 315/40Z17 is just a tad wider than my 285/40Z17 GSD3's, the Nitto's run small while the GS's run large. The 285's fit the wheel fine and don't bulge out over the rim. At full turn the fronts will slightly rub the inner plastic fender cover but some double sided tape easily fixes that. In the rear the drivers side tire will slightly rub the inner fender but only under the hardest of cornering. I've only felt it maybe 3-4 times in 10K miles. I've never been able to get the passenger side to do it.

If you want plug and play go for the 275's, if your willing to do a little work to fit a larger tire then by all means get the 285's. HTH
