Default Skinnies For My New Bogarts

While the Moroso non DOT rated tires are light weight and very good at the track, I'd like to buy a tire that will handle daily driving too.

I'm not into changing the tires all the time.

So my question is, who makes the lightest DOT rated tire??

The rims will be 3" for weight but I'll be going with a 4" tire.

It rains allot down here in Florida in the winter so I'll be needing something that handles well in the rain also.

You just need a 165/15 metric tire. I got mine from the Tirerack --> for about $24 a piece. They are Kuhmo Powerstar's. The VW Bug's use the same size.

Check out www.mickeythompsontires.com ...They will give you a few options...There really is only two choices you have for DOT legal...MTT-1573 and MTT-1572. Many know my feelings on the futura or pepboys tires, they are speed rated @ ~85mph.

If one is willing to take a chance with the pepboys tire, I feel they would be much better off with the MT-1572 tire which is meant for cars <=3K lbs...with weight reductions, it is the lessor of two evils.

The 1572 is ~16lbs the 1573 is 19 lbs.

The ET Fronts are only 12 lbs. Wow that would be a savings over the 19 lbs. street series.
I guess there not DOT rated so would they hold up on the street??

What are the draw backs?

hoserack...the Moroso or ET drag runner will last about a season. I mention this quite often, tires are a consumable, try them, if you don't like them, the next time, try something different.

Mark, all orders have been behind quite a bit due to unforeseen circumstances...orders are starting to move though right now...we have so many rims waiting for final polish.

So if I buy the Morroso or ET Drag will I run the risk on the street of having a blowout?
What are the risks of a non DOT rated tire on the street?

You may feel a bit difference in handling characteristics since the tire is manufactured a bit different...BUT you are optimized for Drag racing...which is what the tire's intended purpose is built for.

Since I'm not affiliated with a tire manufacture, my comment is based on general knowledge...I'm sure that if you asked the manufacture, they would not recommend it just as I can't recommend folks to use our drag rims on the street.

My analogy that I give quite often is "if we manufactured an off-road pipe that is meant for off-road use only, I cannot authorize anyone to use them on the street..."

I certainly wouldn't suggest anyone to use a skinny tire for everyday back/forth to work use etc...many folks use them on the street everyday, you would need to use commen sense.

Mark,

His was placed a few weeks before yours. Yours is a design that we have not made yet, it will be the first one like it in the world.

Things have moved much slower then we certainly would have liked also...the theft at the factory didn't help.

ET Fronts are not street legal and barely have any tread. They are pretty much smooth.

I'd get M/T DOT Sportsman fronts or metric cheapy radials.

Steve, I'm aware of the delays (planned & not planned) & sent you an e-mail just before reading this summizing my interpertation of the future timing of order date vs. ship date which is in line with what you posted above. I'm not in the least bit upset at this point with anything except a lack of any hard info. Everyone I have communicated with & everything I've read convinces me the wait will be worth it. Like anyone else I'm real stoked about getting the wheels on the car not only to see what effect they will have at the track, but also so I can run down to the local Cruise In with that stuff on the car & WOW everyone.

Nice hijack.

I have had ET Fronts on my car for a while. I would NOT drive them in the rain. They are smoother than a baby's butt.

My next set of front tires will be M/T Sportsman DOT's.

Didn't mean to hijack I'm gonna start with Sportsmans per Steve's advice, the issue of cheapo PepBoys style tires not being speed and/or load rated sold me.
