owners of polished wheels please come in
Ive got some polished ZR1 wheels and wanted to know how durable the finish is. How often do they need to be cleaned? Should I get them clear coated or something? or will they hold up to the road? They will see winter with its occasionally salty roads.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I've heard that clear coating will yellow over time and you will just have to do it again. I used Flitz on my TTII's and it worked pretty good, but has kep the shine on them for a while, since its supposed to be a protectant too. I have also heard that Zoop Seal works really well, hope this helps.

Not that I know of. I have to polish mine every couple of months for me to be happy with them.. They look pretty good but I can tell when they start looking dull
I use Magic Mix polish and it works well. I also like Mothers billet polish but it is a pain to use.
I'm going to ask about using a clear coat and see what I can find out. I don't like polishing wheels all the time but thats the price you pay to have some bling

There's supposed to be something called a Powerball coming out from Meguires (I think). It's supposed to make polishing much faster.
My TTII's are 2 years old and I've never polished them. They have a nice silver color to them which goes with the black car.
They still have a decent shine, especially in the sun.
I know mine would probably look better if I polished them, but even if you never do, they will still look pretty good.

You can clear coat them, but it will dull the finish. Later down the road you will have problems with the clear trying to tunr yellow. The only other option is ZOOP seal. It will NOT dull the finish and will NOT yellow. It also cost a lot more, and only last a year or 2. My Y2K wheels are uncoated and I would not have it any other way,

I'm glad someone likes it other than me. I tend to do my own thing, but it's nice to get a compliment every now and then. Another pic.

It is a basic Grand Am nose emblem like some use on the TA nose. It's a chrome-like plastic. It looks real good and can be got at your local dealership. Some of the decal guys even offer covers to change the red to another color.
What I did was use it to cover the key hole. Makes for a real clean rear. The only tricky part is that you have to heat it up and bend a little more curve into it. The chrome doesn't want to bend, so I ended up having 2 small cracks on each side. They are hairline size and can't really be seen.
If you need the part number, let me know. I'll have to look it up.

My Polished ZR1s are 2 weeks old and I have to clean them weekly due to rain.... it leaves water spots... Im thinking of waxing them because the car not being used much, so only contact is rain.
