Default Nitto drag radials - traction

I am going to be get a pair of Nitto DRs (275/40/17) pretty soon because I now have a higher stall converter. Fuddle 3400/2.1. Now I realize that at the track I will want to do a burnout before racing in order to warm up the tires for better traction. Now what about on the street? Will I not get any traction if I don't warm up the tires first? I don't really want to have to do a burnout everytime I want to get some grip. Thanks.

my expierence with nittos is you have to heat them up pretty good for them to stick compared to BFGs and M/T.

Your Nittos will perform best at the track heated and pressure lowered. On the street they will be sticky but wont perform like they would at the track after doing a burnout. I found them to be good street tires and track tires but they wont last long if thats your plans.
The only thing I dont like about running them on the street is they pick up all kind of rocks and pebbles and it sounds horrible when you hear them hitting your car.

I just installed a SS3200 converter a few weeks ago, this last weekend I finally got enough miles on it to have some fun. If I flash the converter there is no traction at all with my 245/16’s. The weather is fairly cool here in CA and even after I drove on them about 15 miles they still went up in smoke. I asked a similar question in the 11 sec club and it seems no one running in the 11s is on Nitto’s, so Mickey Thompson’s DR are going to be my next purchase. With the stock converter the Nitto’s were excellent in hot weather and would barley spin on a cold day, once they warmed up I could spray on them with no problem (not out of the hole). To this point I have been very happy with my Nitto’s but I am over 400 rwhp w/spray and I guess every tire has its limits. If you are going to add more HP and spend much time at the track you may want to do a littler more research before spending money on Nitto’s.

i've gone a 1.68 on 275 Nittos. You gotta heat em up and of course hooking good really depends on the track prep. Mind you I had no suspension done except for lca's.
back then it went 11.48.

i think the nittos are great for the street ,especially if it rains but at the track they proved to be too inconsistent for me.

your better off having one tire for the street and another just for the track.

my latest time was done on a bfg drag radial with a moderate hard launch. I'm on the stock rear so I gotta take it easy. don't feel like spending the money for a new rear yet.

My friend has them on his 96 SS with just bolt-ons(best run is a 8.59) and the best 60ft. he's cut at a very hooking track is a 1.9x on 275/40/17 555Rs. And he does a burnout 'till the smoke is rolling infront of the car. And when he sprays it in 2nd, the tires break loose.

6spd. car, by the way.

rock is right about them picking up pebbles but i feel they do hook pretty well on the street. i usually takes bit of driving before they warm up somewhat. before they do finally warm up though they just spin. but a good tire all around.
