GSDs vs KDW
 

Ok 38k on the clock, and the stock Goodyears are pretty much slicks, so what's the better tire the KDW or the GSD3
The KDW is priced @ $150/ tire, and the GSD3 is $214, so is the GSD3 nearly $100 better than the KDW
This is for a daily driven lightly modded T/A, that will likely not see any track time (just the occasional street race)

C'mon guys all you opinionated folks got nothing to say about this

From what I have read the Goodyears are better in the rain but the KDW2's stick better on dry pavement. Since my car is not a daily driver and never sees rain I went with the KDW2's. They are also cheaper that the Goodyears and the Goodyears are on national backorder until March I believe. If i drove my car in the rain I would probably have gone with the Goodyears.

No personal experience here either but I've also been shopping for new tires and my .02 is that I'm getting the GSD3's. I've been in an accident involving hydroplaning before in an fbody (girlfriend's firebird) because of shitty tires so this time I did the research and everyone is pretty adamant that the GSD3's consistently deliver in the rain and on dry pavement.

Oh one more thing, I notice you live in PA, I'm not sure how much it snows up there or whether or not you use your car for a daily driver, but I do believe I heard somewhere that the GSD3's are NOT good on snow in the least.

People are getting the KDW mixed up with the KD's. I've had both and the GS-D3's will outperform the KDW in every facet. The KD on the other hand has a bit less sidewall flex and better dry traction than the D3's but are murdered when it comes to wet traction. If you're not going to see rain get the KD's, if you are not going to see snow but rain get the D3's, it is a much better tire than the KDW.

I have the KDW2's and i like them alot i have a 98 formula with 18" z06 rims with 275 kdw2 my car has a couple other small mods and as far as hooking up go's the tires are great

I have a 2001 camaro z28 lightly modified with the kdws on it. i have had these tieres for about 8'000 miles and they ride terrible. you feel every bump and crevice in the road. even with the tire pressure lowered to around 26 pounds. had kellys on this before the bfgs and they rode ten times better. I would definately go with the goodyears if i were you.

They say that they are exactly like the GS-D3's, yet they don't look like them all that much and they have a 420 tread wear rating?! That's rediculously high for a high-performance tire.
I have had Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my last car and they stuck to the road like glue no matter the condition (I live in Georgia, so I never saw snow in them). I have never had any experience with the KDW's though. The price may be kinda high for the Goodyear's, but you'll be thanking yourself that you spent the extra pennies next time you get into some "not-so-good" weather conditions. They hold to the wet roads exactly like they would when it's dry. Sweet tires, and they also look so badass!

I expect a performance tire to ride hard. It all a tradeoff. Good cornering=stiff sidewall=hard ride.

I think Tirerack.com had some tests on the KDW2 that showed dry performance numbers were better than the DS's. It was not a head-to-head competition but based on the numbers for dry performance I went with the KDW2's as I do not drive my car in the rain. I know one head-to-head matchup Tirerack did matched up the KD's vs the DS's head-to-head and again the KD was better on dry but horrible in the rain.

I just put on KDW2's and the car handles like a slot car,very reponsive tire.I have never had good luck with Goodyears street tires.

I would get the Kumho MX or the firestone wide oval. I did hours of research. 214 is too much for one tire. You do get what you pay for but you 100% more for 10% more in performance.

I would rather spend 200+ a tire and have qaulity tire than by some cheaper no name tire,it's cheaper for a reason.

I had both and the GSD3's came out way ahead over the KDW's in every aspect. It's not even a contest.

I have KDWS and I agree with you ... the ride is horrible, they are lousy in the wet, spin easily when dry, and are about as good as any other all-season tire in snow. I went back to some crappy soft all-season tires in front with Nittos in the back for the warm months and am dreading going back to the KDWS when it gets cold. Maybe the KDW's and KDW2's are better, but I'd be hestiant to buy anything in that product line.

KDW and KD, are TOTALLY different tires from the KDWS, those are garbage.

Good to know for those considering the others ... I had ordered the KDW's but the tire guy got KDWS by mistake. I went ahead and took 'em - that was MY mistake. My experience confirms the truth of your assessment. Garbage.

Just to throw a monkey wrench in the works...Azenis RT615's have gotten some GOOD reviews over on www.s2kca.com and they say they stick decent in the rain and are the stickiest thing going in dry.
