Questions if this can be done or not..... I currently have 18" privat Fahrens. They are only 8" wide. I would really like to stick a 10.5-11.5" under the rear however. I would like to add most of the width to the lip which can be done as i asked Weldcraft. However, right now i have a 1.5" lip i believe. If i added 3 or 3.5" to the lip or so, they wheels would just stick out 3" more correct? Is there anything i can do like spacer wise to make the wheels set back farther? Also do you think it would look real cool with a huge dish out back? I personally love the huge dish out back but do you think a 4" lip is too big? Any info on if i can do this or not. Currently my wheels sit pretty far back so i can afford them to stick out a little more. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...r/100_0286.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...r/100_0278.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/WS6SnakeEtr/2.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/WS6SnakeEtr/6.jpg |
A rim widening serice would be able to do that. |
For it not to stick out you would have to narrow the rear. |
yea i know they can do that, but im wondering if theres anyway to widen to the lip like 3 inches and have them sit correctly on the car? |
Well, how big is the "lip" now? Looks like atleast 1" if not 1 1/2" could be added to the outside of the wheel. I guess if you wanted 10 1/2" wide wheels you'd need to add the 1 1/2" to the outside and 1" to the inside. A little pricey, since they would have to weld quite a few times. |
There are two issues with this: (1) COST- After you pay Weldcraft the $800 for their service, you're going to still have two weld beads showing up on the lips of your rims. That means you'll have to find a reputable machine shop that can cnc the weld beads down. IF you can even find a machine shop that could do something like that, I don't even wanna think about how much they'd charge. (Added to the fact that you'll probably get some $9 an hour grunt who doesn't know what he's doing and probably doesn't care.) (2) Even the best, most skilled welder in the world can't avoid this thing called porosity. It's basically tiny little air bubbles that get trapped in the metal. Anywhere in the weld bead where there is porosity, after it's machined down you'll then have pinholes showing up on the surface of the lip of the rim. If money were no object, THAT would be enough of a reason to make me not do it. |
hmm, well my lips right now are about 1-1.5". the deeper the lips, the cooler look IMO. He also stated when adding to the lip, the aluminum will be different colors so i will most likely have to ge tthem powdercoated or chromed. I was thinking of jsut chroming out all of my rims at this time. Any idea on a price for that? Think adding 1.5" to the lip would really set it off and give it a cooler/meaner look or not worth it? |
Haha well after reading that above scratch the lip idea, haha. I forgot about the weld marks and such, dang. So either jsut widen them to 10.5, which we figured was about the biggest i could go with my offset without requiring spacers. Or i could just buy some new rims and sell these. Id really like sort of what i have, the 5 spoke, but in a chrome or polished finish and the deep dish i nthe back and real wide. I could get the 18x12 ZO6s but everyone has ZO6s and i dont have the cash for some sweet ccws or iforged. Any suggestions/input? |

Think adding 1.5" to the lip would really set it off and give it a cooler/meaner look or not worth it? $1,800-$2,000 There are about a gazillion chrome rims on the market with 3" lips selling for half that. Your call. |
well screw the added lip idea. It would be $400 for weldcraft and ill be done. Just need new tires. Or i can sell these rims and put the cash towards a new set of rims. |
New wheels sounds like the way to go!!!!! |
thinking about it. I can spend $400 to get these widened or sell them how they are and put the money towards new rims. Any suggestions? |
Sell your rims. |
Sell yours, get new |
definately sell them for rims that fit your description of what you want... it sounds like the only reason you want to widen is to add a nice 3" lip... if you only widen your current wheels, they will look no different from how they look in all of your pictures, except for the side view one... just sell them and get some with a lip... look at ruff 278's or HPR5's, i like those... |
yea but those wheels only come in like 9" wide tho..... I want a huge like 11 or 12 out back. I know a 12 would be tough to fit but i would make it, lol. I would like maybe some 18x11's out back, what types are there i nthat size out there that dont cost an arm and a leg. I would like to spend about a grand on the rims. I know i could get chrome Z06's i nthe 18x12 out back but those are overplayed. Anyone know if an 18x11 ish c6 rim is out there? Can someone post up some more options? |
FWIW these look sweet as hell https://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-tires/462032-hp-evos-ws6-pics-inside.html |
i agree but 18x9 is the widest they have. I want a 10 at least out back, really want an 11 or so. |
The ones in the first pic are 19x9.5 If you want 11s check out TomZwheels, he's got a good variety of wheels, and decent prices too (plus he's a sponsor) |
ok thanks. I want the z06 sizes but in a diff rims, i love the 18x12s. Know of any others? |
