Always fun cleaning the backsides of FIKSE wheels. I use a scotch brite pad on mine, and it keeps them looking good, just like yours. The bolts tear the damned thing to shreads though.

I'm thinking of Zoop sealing the backsides . . .

yeah we kinda gave up on the bolt themselves...
but we had been cleaning since 5:30pm and finished polishing at 3:00~3:30 am.

and we had to get a little more aggressive than scrotch brite pads, they were doing nothing but getting eaten by the crusted on dirt

we used orange oil to remove the old wheel weight glue.

and we polished the inner hoops mother's billet polish and a mother's power ball, the outer lips by hand with the billet polish, and then the centers with a clear coat safe mother's polish

very nice job!!
Thanks

Props to you on that job...the wheels in my sig are just as bad to clean, and the hoops are polished, so it is even worse to get those looking nice. I don't even daily drive them anymore due to it *sigh*

I used steel wool soaked in soap and water to clean the backsides of my chrome plated wheels. Worked great and took me about 10mins a wheel.

Dang, after 5 years I don't bother with the backsides of my Fikse's. Front I use scratchx on the clearcoat inner aluminum follwed by Zaino and a german polish for the chrome hoop.

Nice Job!! Your Fikse hoops look nice

I can appreciate your hard work getting them to look so nice.

Drive from Michigan to Texas and back for a couple thousand miles (Twice) on the HotRod Power Tour
and eventually you get caught driving in the rain, and construction, and MUD, and road kill and .....................

Here are some pictures that will make you CRY

I cleaned them by sitting in the parking lot of Holiday Inn at Midnight polishing them to perfection
and the next day they looked like this
........... And some people don't think I drive the car

It's alot of work to go from that to this and it included sand paper.

OMG

but man your turned out amazing,

so where did you use the sand paper and what type of sand paper?

Wow, what did it take to high polish the innner barrels?

yeah, I wish I could have done a better job on the clear coated centers
I got some water spots that were not coming off as much as I hoped
I might try the scratchX and what Zaino product is that?

Also the "Chrome Hoop", I believe is simply high polished Aluminum....

Also anyone know what would be the best method to remove small scratches from the high polished lips?

Holy cow man, those look simply amazing after you got done!!

So what did you use? I have scratches in the aluminum from slipping torque wrenches and driving it to work for 5 years in ths summer, I'd love to make mine look new again. I tried scratchx from Meguirers but it does nothing for the deep stuff. I assume at this point you've gone through the clearcoat when you mentioned sandpaper.

I was almost thinking of sending my rims back to Fiske to have them redone, but you've inspired me to consider doing it myself. ANY help would be appreciated as I've searched on the web etc. and pm'd other members with no luck on what to use to seriously clean them up.

kny3twalker,

I use Zaino Z2 after washing them with simple green and water ( a 50/50 mix ). Are you sure the hoop is polished aluminum, I thought there were several options available and one was chrome.

So the hoop on mine must be high polished. And when I said clearcoat, I meant our centers as it's their technipolish.

I was just referring to that his iForged may have not been clearcoated...

and by the way, great pictures of your wheels/car. It really helped me decide on what wheels would look good on my Formula.

Thanks

Thanks man. This picture helped me decide back in 2000.

I wonder what I can do with deep scratches in the technipolish. Scratchx sure made it look pretty and shiny but they are there. I may have to contact Fikse direct to find out.

I have the full polish FM5's and they have minor scratches on the spokes. What are you guys using to get those out with?

That's my problem, I don't know what to get them out with. Since they are clearcoated , I assume any serious abrasive will burn through it.
