Drag Radial's and the rain Im planning on getting some drag radials for my car. I know drag radials arent really made to be driven in wet weather but im going to risk it. Does anyone know which drag radial is safer on wet roads? Im thinking going nitto or bfg if anyone has a better option let me know. |
Nitto's handle fine in the rain. Now if they are almost bald heck no. But with tread on the Nitto's dont worry. |
Nittos are supposed to be better for wet traction. Today was the first time I have drove mine in the rain. As long as your not stupid you will be fine. |
I was very surprised at how they (the 555RII's) handle in the rain. The RII'2 are the same as the R's, but with a sidewall stiffener added. I've got them on all 4 corners and they are more stable in the rain than the Kumho Ecsta 712's and Bridgestone Potenza RE's I had. |
i have raced in the rain with new m/t dr's and could keep her under controll with a 6spd |
My Nittos did fine, but you still have to use a little common sense every now and then. |
cool thanks guys. now the only question is do i go with the nitto 555 or the nitto 555rII |
I'd go with the 555R DR's. |
This is good to know, that was the only thing holding me back from getting some DR's that arent on spare 17's!

the mickey d/r is a bad ass tire |
I just drove home from the track in the rain with my MT Dr's and I will NEVER do that again. They are like new and I was slipping everywhere. |
With the M/T DRs if you run no more than 25 psi on the street you'll be ok in the rain. I have been caught many times and have been fine both on the 255 50 R16s and the 275 50 R15s...When its dry you have to experiment with prssures to get an even wear pattern, I use my daughters driveway chaulk on the tread and drive then check the wear until its uniform... --Alan |
