I'm sure if you live in other dry states and where you stash the car 6 months out of the year for winter, it's not as important.
It's a nice tire but expensive. As for what they're made for. Hell the GS-D3 was developed for European use on Porches, Ferraris, etc. High speed handling rain or dry.
