TT2's......worth the time and effort?? I am wanting to get myself a nice Christmas present...so I was thinking about rims. I have always LOVED the look of the American Racing TT2's, and was thinking about getting them. I was looking at getting the 17 x 11" and 17 x 9.5" combo from TomzWheelz, but I have one question...... I have heard that it is a pain in the a** to keep these polished aluminum wheels clean. I daily drive my Trans Am, and I also live on a Limestone backroad. I was wondering if you guys think it is worth it?? Or not?? Any personal experience is greatly appreciated, I have a hard decision to make. Thanks in advance!!! :drive: -James |
I have them and i love em! i have this little mother mini powerball i polish them once in a while, but not every wash, i just get a terry cloth and wipe them down maybe add some windex. hehe. |
very well worth it. at first it seems like a pain. but you get used to it and it doesnt take long to polish etc. and i think that my polished wheels when cleaned look better than chrome. justmy opinion tho. i actually bought my 2 rears from bubbaBFB. still looking good bro :D. |
Well worth it,and I highly recommend going 18's on the rear, looks so much better than 17's all around.IMO |

I have them and I don't mind at all cleaning them every week, like Donohue96M6Z28 said you get used to it. |

I had a 17/18 combo before, it looked stupid IMO. I like my 17's all around much better, and I kinda need some sort of sidewall to hook up. My wheels aren't TT2's but they are polished (not the ZR1's) I waxed them when I got them and just use detailing spray to touch them up (basically car soap and water). They were FILTHY this morning from driving around in slush yesterday, a spray with the soap hose at the car wash and they looked great. |
Nope, get chrome TTM's FTW!!11 You either use the powerball with the aluminum cleaner for the TT2's or a dry rag for the chrome TTM's. If your car is a daily driver, I'd go TTM, if it is a weekend cruiser, go TT2, they both look badass. Also, the offset on the TTM is a direct fit, no modding of the wheelwell, good luck! |
Worth it, just stay on top of them, clean once a week with a microfiber and amonia free windex(takes 10 minutes at the most)then polish once a month. If you let them get real bad, it will be a bitch to get them looking good again, but will still be able to brought back to a shine with some work. If it snows near you, DO NOT keep them on in the winter. You would have to clean them everyday to prevent that salt from dulling them, not worth it to have them on in the winter IMO. |
i had them on my third gen i loved them so much im going to buy a nother set for my forth gens |
get the mother's mini powerball and polish 'dem beetches! well worth it imho! i like the 17's all around w/ 9.5" on the fronts and 11" out back! but my opinion is biased tho :) |
i hate mine...if u would consider 17X9.5 on all four corners ill hook up up with a great deal...PM me...mine are like less than 6 months old with no more than 1K miles on them...i hate to clean these bastards/im not to good at it...so id like to get rid of these for something a lil more simple to take care of |

It's not that bad once you get the hang of polishing. I think it's more than worth it to go with polished wheels. I bought my 2 front wheels used from someone local and one of them was in bad shape. They both were sitting outside for several months without any kind of care and I was able to get them looking better than new. Once you polish them up well and find a technique you like and that works well it won't take much time to keep them looking great. |

i just got my tt 2's , what polish cleaner would you guys recommend ???one that i can pick up at a local auto parts store. |
Everyone will say Mother's billet aluminum but I personally like Noxon. Also I hear one of our sponsor's has a polish called Heavy Metal but I haven't used it. |
out of all the polishes I've used I like Mother's Billet the best. I've used heavy Metal polishes and I think the finish looks a little foggy once finished. |
I said not worth the time. But, I would get TTII's and powdercoat the wheels grey/anthracite or black... lmfao much like the above poster's car. |
