Default To make sure I'm 100% sure on 17x11's

Hi guys,

I got my 17x11's in today and was curious as to how they would fit. I used a conventional lift and put them on, and when I dropped them down the bumpstops were pressed against the tires which scared me.

I've been reading and saw that people suggested using a 5/16" spacer or so? The only spacer I can find is this:

http://thunderracing.com/catalog/?ac...vid=4&pcid=215

I'm not sure which one I need however.

I have also read that I need to jack the rear end up with the differential housing as opposed to the traditional lift method?

The car is a 1997 Z28 and the tires are 50mm offspaced Black ZR-1's.

If anyone could confirm or give me advice I would be beyond grateful! I hope everyone has a safe weekend.

I removed the bumpstops, cut them right down the middle to make them narrower, and then reinstalled them.

You dont need to take the bumpstops off. Just lift from the differential and you'll be fine.

will jacking up the differential housing keep the axles at their usual height instead of lifting it all?

I guess I'm just a little nervous of hitting a bump and puncturing a tire or something with one of the bumpstops.

ya, It will keep the bump stop closer to the rotor instead of letting the wheel droop.

I grinded the bumpstop completely off on a prev car. I will never do that again.

what fireman said will work, but its not needed.

Update:

Followed what Donohue96M6Z28 said for the rears, and the bumpstops are under the top of the sidewall/under the top of the rim! Fits perfectly so far! Put on the backs and took a cruise around the neighborhood and no rubbing yet..so it looks like this is def. the trick if you have 50mm offset wheels in the rear!

Thanks a ton Donohue96M6Z28!!

I don't have that problem on my car. My bumpstops are not cut. I have adjustable LCAs and a adjustable Panhard bar. My roomate who has the same thing as me but on a 96 Z28 had to cut his bumpstops to get his 17x11s to fit.

I had to BFH the front of the fender wells but some automotive underbody paint helped so you don't notice it when i take the wheels off.

Still no problems but someone said that if I go over a hill or a bump I run the risk of blowing a tire out since the axle will allow the bumpstop contact with the tire..

has anyone had this problem? I went ahead and removed the two 13mm bolts and took the bumpstop off, but is that enough or do I need to worry?

I personally doubt that its going to blow out a tire. I've ran many sets of 11s have never had a problem.
