Eagle F1 GS-D3's?

Does anyone here drive on these? They are what I was thinking about getting. They got great reviews on tirerack's website, but I don't know if they are the kind of drivers that we are... lol. They all seemed to think they weren't capable of slipping unless they were on the snow or ice. haha

I'm trying to decide whether to get those or DRs now for my car... Would they be able to stick with a full bolt on stalled car?

ZFan88 Jul 27, 2007 02:30 AM

My roommate has these on his '00 Camaro and personally I think they suck ass. I've had BFG DRs on mine and they were awesome. Now I have KDWs and they're much better, IMO, than those tires.

Either he has the stock GS's or something is very wrong. No street tire is going to compare to a DR in straightline traction but the D3 is WAY better than the KDW, in fact the KD and D3 is more of a comparison except for wet traction.

(I've had all 3)

Speedmonster185 Jul 27, 2007 02:24 PM

That's what I was thinking... The stock tires like I have on mine, because they aren't any good. I'm still wondering about the stuff I asked though. How close would the D3 be compared to say a Nitto DR (the 555r)?

Addicted Jul 27, 2007 04:10 PM

I've had D3's on my Camaro since the summer of 2004 and really like them, they are a great all around tire, sure they don't hook as well as a DR but you can drive them in the rain and the car handles better then when it's on DRs

Speedmonster185 Jul 27, 2007 06:07 PM

I don't really dive my car in the rain and I don't drive anywhere where I need awesome handling... :(. That's what makes it so hard.

Blakbird24 Jul 27, 2007 06:24 PM

Well if you know you are never every going to get caught in the rain, and you don't care about handling, then there's no reason to not get Nitto 555r's.

The GS-D3 is probably the best tire you can get for our cars if you want to do everything. They grip good (nothing like DRs of course, but far better than RS-As), handle AWESOME, and are great in the rain.

+1

I love my 315/35-17 GS-D3's. The wet traction is amazing.

Not to mention they are WIDE!

Depends on what you're going to do with them - track them? daily driver? lots of rain in your area? dry climate? etc.

I have them on now and for a 3,850 pound car, could be less with my mods, they have done their job - I'm almost done with them but they do get slippery when heated up on track.

Great tread pattern, good in rain (haven't had too much until now) - here's how I would review them:

Rain - 8
Dry Traction - 9 until heated up track style not daily driving
Noise - 8
Looks - 9
Sidewall Firmness - 6-7

Good luck!

I have them on my car and I have no complaints. Great in wet and dry weather, I will buy them again.

Pricey, but, weeeeell worth the cost ... best street tire I've ever had. They're a softer compound than most tires, so, they'll wear out a little faster. Before I had enough HP to require drag radials, I would drive on nothing else but the GS-D3's. They're high-dollar for a reason and stick GREAT wet or dry.

+1 i think they have awesome traction and I LOVE the wideness. Many people ask me when im cruising if they are drag radials. I'm only 17 and could never afford to get more but i bought my z28 with them on there and i love them

This is very bad and dangerous advice! The GS-D3 is awesome in rain or dry--even heavy rain as long as the temp if 35F or better. Below that, they are the most dangerous tire I've ever driven--bar none!

As for snow; you're taking your life in your hands even trying it. Do a search and you'll see what I mean. I am probably one of the best road course and autocross drivers on this site and it's all I could do to get my LT1 home from work during a minor snowstorm here last winter.

The GS-D3 is the best street tire I've ever owned, but only under the conditions I outlined.

The GS-D3 tire is NOT a winter or all season tire. I believe it even says on the tire, "Not for snow conditions".

oh really...

coolformula Jul 28, 2007 08:07 PM

I have heard lots of good things from them. Lot better than the previous crappy goodyears such as RSA's and F1's.

I reallydo like the Kumho MX and the Firestone Wide Oval both very good wet/dry tires.

I have had them both. And the firestone is about 200 cheaper a set and great great in the rain!

Good luck with your choice.

Rokn Red Jul 28, 2007 10:30 PM

Got'em and they gave me confidence over night when it's wet. Besides, it has one of the best looking tread patterns out there, it just says power and speed.

Hey Ohio,

what the hell are you doing driving an F-Body in Snow, hell why not a Vette? UR not one of them Buckeye levers are you? GO BLUE!!!

My 'bird loves the snow :drive:

Anywho, you've got a DD, so you want a tire that sticks. Look into what the better auto-x guys are running. The Kumho MX would probably be a great tire for what you need. I've not run either, but I've done plenty of research on the subject and the guys over on frrax dot com seem to like them...

BlackFormula01 Jul 28, 2007 11:59 PM

I had them on my Formula and they are a great tire. I can't say enough about them. The wet traction is great, and thats important to me as the car is a daily driver. As for winter, get a set of Blizzacks. My car felt like a totally different car (for the better) with the GS-D3s.
