The wheels will not stick out, but, depending on how the wheel is widened the offset will change. The only way to widen a wheel without changing the offset is to put new material in equal widths to the front and back sides of the wheel.

If all the new material is added to the backside of the wheel (which is typical) the offset will change by 50% of the added width . . . So for example.

If you want the 9.5" wheel to be 10.5" wide, you are adding 1" to the back side of the wheel. 1" = 25.4 mm, 50% of 25.4 mm = 12.7 mm therefore the new offset of the wheel is 40 mm + 12.7 mm = 52.7 mm and that offset still fits on the car.
