go with 17x9.5 and 18x10.5

Redlinez Oct 29, 2007 07:02 PM

Keep what you have, they look great. Screw credit card debt for car parts man.

Dskeet6 Oct 29, 2007 07:28 PM

save some money and get 17x11s in the back wit GSD-3s!!!

personally I think it looks the best:nod::nod::nod:

bearcatpride Oct 29, 2007 09:44 PM

Go with the 17x9.5 - 17x11 combo

rudeLT1 Oct 29, 2007 09:50 PM

either way you go, go staggered, 9 or 9.5 up front and at least 10s in the rear

first of all, if you don't have all the money to pay for the wheels up front, i definitely would not put them on a credit card. the only way i'd put stuff like that on a credit card is if i already have all the money, and i just want to pay it off slowly to build up my credit. don't make the mistake of just buying this, that, & the other with a credit card, just because you can....you can get in some real financial trouble that way. ask me how i know..... :emb:

that said, it all depends on how much disposable income you bring in on a monthly basis, and what your main focus is for the car.

if you do a ton of drag racing, i'd go no larger than 17" in diameter, and would do a staggered 17x8" wheel w 245-width tires up front (or 17x9 / 17x9.5 with 275-width tires) and a 17x10.5" wheel with 315-width tires out back.

for a normal street, auto-x, or road race car, i'd probably just stick with 275-width tires on all 4 corners, in either 17" or 18" sizes.....this will let you rotate the tires from front/rear to get the most life out of them.....which is important, because the 18" tires are going to be quite a bit more expensive than 17" tires (unless you go with shitty tires, but then what's the point in upgrading the width, really?), so you should take that into account as well.

if it's mainly just a show car, then it's all up to you to decide what size you think looks best for the car. personally, i'd definitely not go any larger than 18", but in most cases, i like the look of 17's best....i'd not a real fan of "riding on rubber bands" on an f-body, but i do also like a somewhat low-profile sidewall....and 17's fit that just about perfectly in my opinion, and the tires are less expensive for 17's as well, so it works out pretty good.

and just one last thing to consider: brake upgrades. if you ever plan on upgrading to a larger rotor, you will want to make sure you get rims that will allow adequate clearance, so you don't have to buy a wheel/tire package more than once.

thanks for the advice..im a college student that gets by..im not going put all sorts of car parts on my credit card..its just im 19(20 in 3 weeks) and i have no credit..i think i should start so i figure the rims on the credit card and pay them off in the 6 months with no interest..than the credit card is just for emergencies......
anyways i think i'l go with 17's..im not really planning on drag racing..maybe go to the track here and there...anyone know a good place to get zo6 rims 17's??

Don't do staggered diameter wheels on an f-body. looks terrible. staggered widths is the way to go. the ZR-1s look good in 17x9.5 and 17x11. or do the Z06s in 18x9.5 and 18x10.5. 18s will give a stiffer sidewall for handling and 17s will be better for the strip.

Snowman2K1 Oct 30, 2007 01:41 AM

im thinking of just getting 17's and running 275's all around:confused:

TXZ28LS1 Oct 30, 2007 01:46 AM

dont go staggered!! its pretty ugly IMO!! go with the C5 Z06!! im going with those with 18x9.5/18x10.5!! should look sick with a 1-2 inch drop!! go with the 18inch C5 Z06...

Snowman2K1 Oct 30, 2007 01:55 AM

im stupid..but what do you mean staggered?!

staggered can mean two things: different sizes in wheel diameter, or different sizes in wheel width.

personally, on an f-body, i think it's fine to stagger the width, but i think it doesn't look that great to stagger the wheel diameters (such as 18's in the rear and 17's up front, like the way Corvette wheels are staggered in diameter from front to rear).

Tomzwheels (a board sponsor) is currently running a special on several different types of wheels....they have the C5 Z06 wheels in 17"x9.5" x 4 wheels for $569+shipping, which is what i will probably be ordering really soon: Tomzwheels prices thread

In my opinion Z06's look good in 18's. I had them in 18's and they looked much better than the 17's I saw on someone else's car. If you are going to stick with 17's then keep the ZR1's.
