best drag tires?????????

I currently have 275-40-17 BFG g-force T/A drag radials. they work pretty good for traction on the street and track. but I need more traction now. I have heard a lot of good things about mickey thompson's tires, and also seen a lot of ppl with nitto's too. I need something for the drag strip and street use. I don't plan on driving a whole lot on the street because i have another vehicle to get back and forth to work with.
So what dr gets the best traction??

From what I've been told, the M/T street slick has no equal. Can't remember the exact name, someone here I'm sure knows.

Well I've ran Nitto's and am currently running MT's.. MT's win hands down.. They hook and hook hard..

slowjoe99 05-11-2008 02:58 PM

which mt's are best for the street and strip?

subhumanzz 05-11-2008 03:26 PM

m/t et street radials are what you want.

Yep, that's what I am running..

looks like i'm going with mt et streets! :) thanks for the input guys. but does anyone have a picture of these tires on their car?? in a 26 11.50 17 on stock width (9.5 inch) wheels?

DevilDougWS6 05-13-2008 06:25 AM

MT et streets, they are only 26x10.5x16 on stock ta wheels, they hook like a mother f-er. i would not put them on your daily driver wheels, not safe. get some 16s like i did for the track, they are lighter than the 17s

the factory 17 inch wheels measure about 24-24.5 inches high, these are atleast 2 inches taller. i would not go any bigger on stock gearing either.

You won't be disappointed with the ET Streets, bu I would follow the advise of getting some cheap stocker rims to throw 'em on.

Unstang 05-13-2008 08:37 AM

I wouldn't get the ET Streets for any wheel that is going to see any street use. The tires will wear out quickly & they handle like a flat tire. My vote goes for the ET Street Radial, they hook good & can be driven on without any problems.

Wrong. The MT ET Street Radials do in fact have an equal these days... The Hoosier DR's. I had the MT's and switched to the Hoosiers. From what I've seen so far it's a great tire that will hook better than the MT's. Only downside from what I can see is an increased treadwear on an already low low low mileage tire.

If you're just wanting the best traction for the track then get the Mickeys Thompsons.

i only plan on driving my camaro about 100 miles a week. and not to work very often. The only time I will probably drive it is when i go crusing around town street racing or at the track. Would the ET street tires work for this kind of driving? wearing out fast is not something that i'm too worried about since my last set of BFG DR's have outlasted my expectations and that was even when I was driving it to work kinda often..

i thought i was the only one looking at those hoosiers :). they look like they could hook like a mutha' ,but they are not DOT approved. even though the tires are a called street radials . i want to get a set of hoosiers and put them on some 15" summit prostars . but since i live like , 6 miles from my local track ,i could probably get away with driving them to and from the track .

mickey thompson also has a straight drag radial(non street tire) if you're considering the hoosiers.

they are start at a 29" tire though.
