So i want to put a 17x9.5 in the front with some 275x40's. On the rear i want a 40 height tire, so i dont know whats the largest i can put back there.

FYI the sidewall is not measured it's a percentage of the tread width.

aka. 275/40/17 = 40% of 275 created the sidewall height.

so technically if you have a 275/40 and a 315/35 the sidewalls will be just about the same height because the ratio of the tread is about the same.

just so you know.
