15,16, 17" Nitto's

Which Nitto's work best at the track? 26" tall? 15's, 16's, or 17's? That's on a 8" wide rim. Also are 245x16" Nitto's 26" tall exactly? Thanks. WJ.

You can calculate any tire's height as follows:

275/50/15--> ((275x.50x2)/25.4) + 15 = 25.83 in., need 7.5 " rim
245/50/16--> ((245x.50x2)/25.4) + 16 = 25.65 in., need 8" rim
275/40/17--> ((275x.40x2)/25.4) + 17 = 25.66 in., need 9.5" rim
295/35/18--> ((295x.35x2)/25.4) + 18 = 26.13 in., need 10.5" rim
315/35/17--> ((315x.35x2)/25.4) + 17 = 25.68 in., need 11" rim
275/40/18--> ((275x.40x2)/25.4) + 18 = 26.66 in., need 9.5" rim
305/45/18--> ((305x.45x2)/25.4) + 18 = 28.81 in., :eek2:

I have recently cut a 1.68 60' on 245/50/16 Nittos, so they do pretty well.

I will be stepping up to a 275/50/15 Nitto next, will see if I can get a 1.5X 60' on a M6 car!

You want the tallest sidewall you can get to get the most sidewall crinkling and traction footprint. If you have not removed your front swaybar, then do this as it is the best and cheapest(free)suspension mod you can do to improve the transfer of weight from front to back launching at the line. It also removes about 10-12 lbs. off the weight of the car which will speed you up some too. Good Luck with your search!

buy a set of pontiac takeoff rims $50 a piece,then call jegs and buy a set of 305/40/16 m&h racemaster tires,you will hook way,500% better then nitto.i took 6-tenths off my time going from nitto to m&H,and 2.5tenths from et-street to m&h tire. goodluck to ya.

mike c.,

Do you drive the M&H only at the track, or on the street too?

If you drive them on the street, how are they in the rain?

The 305/40/16 is not too wide for an 8" rim? How much sidewall bulge do you think there is with that tire?

Thanks in advance,

Randy :drive: :burn:

Re: 15,16, 17" Nitto's

Yes Mike, I had M&H's on my '99 M6 car. They were scary on the street until I installed tubes---swayed alot--they are not radial design, scary in rain, as well, but great at the track w/tubes. Under 17psi, even w/tubes they wander a little on top end. I just want Nitto's for street and occasional d.o.t racing. I run 26-8.5x15 ET Drags at the track 99% of the time. The M&H's are damn good track tires, though. Best wishes. WJ.
