Components...and some Q's...

I have 2 set's of JL audio components and a JL 300/4 amp. If I disconnect the wires from the monsoon amp, and from the factory speakers, will they still be wired at 2ohm? What will I need to do to get them to 4ohm's? I have an aftermarket HU, just need to know if I can use the factory wiring for this job or is it required that I re-wire the whole car.
thanks

wow, no one has done this before??

Speaker impedances are impedances. You can't change them. Generally, you must remove the (crappy) mids and tweet, replace with quality components, then amp them. The Monsoon system is very incompatable with aftermarket items.

Re: Components...and some Q's...

The Monsoon amp's channels run at 2 ohm, its not a 4 ohm amp thats wired in parallel to drop the load.

that said you cannot use the factory wiring because the mids in front are wired to the amp, but the tweeters are wired to run off the deck. That and if youre running good equipment like that you want to use good new wires.

Think of it this way, the speaker is what presents the ohm load to the amp. So, if you disconnect the speaker wire from the monsoon amp and disconnect it from the factory speaker and if you then hook up the factory wire to the aftermarket speaker and to the JL amp then yes, you'd present the JL Audio amp a 4 ohm load. That's as long as the wire isn't shorted out or anything like that. It's the factory 2 ohm speaker that gives the monsoon amp the 2 ohm load.

It would probably be best to just leave the factory wiring the way it is. I'd run new speaker wire and just leave the factory wiring so later on if you would like to return it to stock it's very easy to do.

Since you have an aftermarket HU then you'll probably have the RCA outs on it already for the amp.

Hope this helps and if not just post up some more questions! :-)

Sorry, I misread. I thought you were trying to use an amp on the stock speakers. It would suggest running new speaker wire, but it could be done with the old wire if you determine which wires go from the amp to the doors, then cut off the monsoon connector and splice wires in.

Thank you!
You are correct, I don't want to re-wire the whole car when the wire in there is fine. Do any of you have a GOOD reason why I SHOULD re-wire the whole car? I didn't know if GM did anything odd with the wiring...that's why I asked.
I guess does anyone now have a diagram of the monsoon and which wire goes where? Like a pinout reading? that would be very helpfull.
Yeah, I have done HU, amp, sub installs, but this will be my first component install with x-overs, wish me luck! :burn:

I would rewire the car. It will be the best thing to do in the long run since it will mot likely take longer to figure out the factory wires than to run new ones. You have to run an RCA from the HU back might as well run a turn on and a speaker wire with it. You should run a new power for the amp to ensure the amp is getting the power current it needs. And most IMO the most important thing is to not hack up the factory wiring that way it can be put back to stock with very little hastle.

Re: Components...and some Q's...

I figured I could just use and Ohm meter to figure out the wiring, just put a battery on the one end and test at the other...?
The car wont be going back to stock, so I'm all for hacking away at it.
The rca's and remote turn on wire and power only run down one side, I don't want to rip the whole car apart unless i have to.
If none of the factory wire is crimped/sheared/crossed, why would I even need to bother?
