6 1/2 subs

For what it is worth (and this maybe a repost???), JL Audio shows a true
6 1/2" subwoofer on their website. I have not contacted anyone to see if it is available or anything and I have no idea what they sound like. I just remembered seeing post about no one making these and thought I would share this discovery with anyone that might be looking. They do appear to be a higher wattage speaker than I would have hoped for, so who knows what they will sound like with our stock Monsoon amps.

I assume your talking about 6W0

Since the impedance is twice of what the factory is I would say the resistance is too high and you wont be able to power them to make them sound any better.

They are also not a free air speaker. Simply separating the front and rear waves (like the factory doors do) will not suffice. They require a enclosure of some sort.
Sealed Enclosure Range: 0.15-0.20 cu.ft. (4.3-5.8 liters)
Ported Enclosure Range: 0.20-0.33 cu.ft. (5.8-9.3 liters)

I like JL Audio dont get me wrong. I just dont think they would fit good in this particular application. If they were a free air DVC (4 ohm coils) this would be a much better choice.

So we basically are still out of options on the sub replacements??? I knew they were 4 ohm instead of 2 ohm, but so are all the other replacement speakers people have been using.

fosgate makes a 6 1/2 sub that i know of

I know of a few people who have used JL Audio 6W0s in the sail panels with good results.
I have not heard it in person, but I do plan on doing the same myself.
Properly amp'd of course, a JL Audio 300/2 to the pair. :)

Tang Band makes some (with a larger XMAX to boot!)

The JL audio comes in 4ohm or 8ohm flavors. While I'm not up to par on these OE sound systems. I gather that it's amplified and hampers most basic installs. Solution to that is to use your own amplification.

Lastly the mother of all 6.5" woofers. The Adire Audio Extremis 6.8. For a 6.5" speaker to be considered a "subwoofer," this is about as close as you can get.

 I noticed it says nothing about linear excursion. Ive never heard of them before.

Remember that a 6.5 "sub" will start to roll off at around 180hz which is really high(not even bass as far as im concerend, but rather mid bass). To reproduce bass you really need 10+. The JLs intent with these is for center channel mid bass.

Anyone know where to find those JL's? Ive been looking around and can't seem to find them anywhere. Let me know if you can. Thanks

With the right enclosure the Adire Extremis will go down to the low 30's (-3db). With the transfer function of a cars interior, you'll be in the 20's for sure. But you'll still need like 4 or more drivers to actually have it tickle your backside. With a minimum of 6 to actually be considered decent.
