I've run into this, although I can't remember what brands or components. Luckily I do remember the fix. Get yourself a flat file, and make the room you need. Be sure that the components will actually fit in the dash first though. My guess is that there's some sort of trim ring or bezel around one of the components that's taking up the extra space. Sometimes those bezels can easily be removed - check it out.

ok ok, its that the radio in the kit is placed EXACTLY in the middle, thats why its not fitting........ u have to move up the radio a notch, so that its flush with the top of the trim, then make some kind of strap to have it underneath and u gotta use a file to cut the extra plastic UNDER the radio.

It's either that or get one of the kits that already have a provision for a 1/2 din eq. If you've already bought the one you have and can't return it (or would cost to ship) I'd break out the file and a six-pack. BTW, be sure and post pics when you're done!
FWIW, a dremel with a small drill-bit works extremely well in plastic, but be careful - it works extremely well!
