Default Speaker/Amp Help

I've used the search feature plenty and have found so many different answers that it isn't funny. Maybe you guys can save me some time...

I have an Alpine CDA-9833 head unit and have a front passenger speaker blown. I am currently thinking of putting a component set it front and getting the coaxials for the rear seat. This much I have gathered from my searching. The question is...what are your personal favorites for the speakers and a good amp. And why coaxials? I didn't find an answer to that one.

Here is the amp that I'm currently looking at: Alpine MRV-F450
Speakers, I was considering the JL audio compents sets.

Do I need anything besides the speakers, amp, and good wiring? I may end up with a sub in the future, not sure yet...hence the amp that I listed (5 channel). I don't know much about car setups, so any suggestions are welcomed.

I see no reason whatsoever why you couldn't use component speakers on all 4 corners. The only thing different about the back seat, is there is not a seperate tweeter location as there is in the door. I'm guessing people are recomending coax for the rear just out of convenience. With a coax, you don't have to worry about mounting the tweeter and crossover. I haven't taken the speakers out of there yet, so I can't speak to whether there is a problem with not enough room. I've also noticed that coax speakers are alot less expensive than component sets.

I was thinking the same thing when I was getting my system together last week. The main reason for the coax in the back and comps up front is imaging. If you use comps in the rear with the speakers being more level with your ears, they will sound louder back there than up front, like your facing backwards at a concert. You could always fade it forward to even it out, but it would be cheaper to get the coaxials in the first place. If your concern is the power handling differences between the 2 sets dont worry about it. Im getting the MRV-F345 and all you have to do is keep the gain for the rear down and you'll be fine(I'm assuming your amp has teh same option). Hope that was somewhat of a help.

I'm going to go to a local shop and hear some of their component sets. They have everything from JBL, to JL Audio and Focal. Hopefully I'll find something that I like. Any suggestions on certain amps (brand) over another?

a lot of the upper end coaxials are actually components that are just mounted like coaxials... (they have crossovers) at least my JL XR's are like that.

Out of those I would pick focal.

There running co-axils in all the factory locations will be fine as long as you replace the monsoon 'amp'. It has high and low pass filters that defeat the purpose of co-axils if you dont remove the monson.

My current intention is to buy a 5 channel alpine amp and remove the monsoon amp. This would go along with the alpine hu. I'm not sure what all else I would need.

How about focal polyglass 165v2 component sets? Found one (new) for 250, ebay. Any suggestions from there? I'm looking to spend 300 for the front components, give or take 50.

I've never heard focals. But from comparing the specs on the web, I like the Alpine SPS-171R's. They better freq range and slightly higher sensitivity. I'd expect better bass response, which I'd think you'd want since you're not going to add a subwoofer right away. After using the 170A's with the stock Monsoon system, I'm very fond of Alpine. If I ever decide to get rid of the Monsoon system, I'd likely go with a straight Alpine setup. Plus, the Alpines are reasonably priced. I just couldn't see spending $2000 on stereo system for my home, let alone my car.

I've been real hesistant to spend any extra money on the speakers for the car too. Hence trying to do some research before actually forking over the money. I'll probably listen to some more setups at other local shops before I actually buy anything. I was originally looking to buy the alpine components, but I noticed that I could get the JL Audio components for nearly the same price. Too many options, specs, brands, and prices...
