Another A/F meter question. . .

Another A/F meter question. . . Facts: Alright, got an LS1 Camaro. . . nearly 100,000 miles. . .
Added a Stewart Warner A/F meter (2 1/16). Wired the power to a keyed source, wired the ground to engine ground, wired lead to purple wire of my 2nd O2 sensor on the drivers side. . .The sensor is the one downstream of the cat (it's on the Y-pipe).
Problem: For about 10 seconds when the car is started, gauge reads fine, but when the exhaust is warming up (i'm guessing thats a symptom) the meter starts to read lean and keeps going until it's not on scale any longer. . . while I'm driving along, if I'm getting on it a bit, the sensor comes into range again, but if I let off the gas or coast. . .it drops below lean again. . . .
Solution: Got me. . .anyone else?

U can not read the a/f from the stock O2. They switch from low to high when the A/F goes above 14.7 and they switch from high to lowwhen below. U need a wide band to read this. Sorry I know u do not want to hear this.

you can read it from the stock o2. that is why autometer sells these gauges. but of course if you are reading it for tuning or really need the exact values then yes you will need a wideband. I have used my narrow band for a while and i love it. looks great and it has helped me when i was running super rich. all the way in the green.

well looks and the fact it has helped me diagnose a lot of problems since it's installation. bad 02 running too rich, running too lean. i dont have exact values mind you but I can see about where it is at. I was super rich so i checked it on the wideband and yep it was right, i was about 13.7. tuned it down to 12.3-12.0 ish and now the meter stays mostly in the stoich part. so it has helped me.
