weirdest electrical issue i've ever had ok, yesterday my car throws the "brake" light on the dash, i didn't think much of it figured i would check it out this weekend, so i go to drive my car last night, flip on the key and the left turn signal light is constantly on on my dash and also my high-beam light is barely on (dim but visible) i go to check my headlights and my inner lights (high's) are dim on both sides, my low beam on the passenger side is on but the driver side was burned out. My passenger side foglight was working but not the driver. I figured oh, i just need to replace the bulb, when i went to go close my hood, everything started working fine again. I go to the store, come out and it does the same thing when i start it again. I tried messing with every wire but nothing worked, i just drove it home that way. Now this morning it does the same thing but it's raining, so i go to turn on my windshield wipers and they don't work, I don't understand why the high beams would be half on, anybody have any ideas?? |
I had a similar issue on my car....Try this.... Remove your shifter knob and shift boot, or whatever. Basically you want to get under the console to where you can see the entire parking brake mechanism internals. Attached on the parking brake is a small one wire sensor. The sensor is what tells your car if you are driving with the parking brake on. The layout of the whole thing is very poor and the wire doesnt have much slack. I believe its a blue wire and on my car it had chaffed and worn to the point where it was shorting stuff out and cause the brake light to come on for no reason, lights turn of sporadically, etc. Very wierd stuff. Anyway, all I did was cut this wire and insulate it from the metal of the car. So basically my parking brake warning light no longer works, but who needs it. If you wanted to could splice some extra length into that wire to get it more out of the way, and keep it working. Let me know if you have any more questions. |
thanks for the response, that definately sounds feesible since i put on a new shifter last week, i'll look for that when i get home, any other ideas??? |
well... wire was slightly melted in one spot, but that didn't fix it, brake light still on and same dash light/headlight problem... gonna go reset ecu and see what happens, someone please help!!! |
now I just realized my fans aren't working correctly either, someone please!!! |
Damn. I have no idea man. Are you blowin' fuses? |
nope, no blown fuses, checked everything yesterday |
after searching every inch of my car i found the ground wire to the right of the radiator (from front) was slightly burned, I cut it and made a good connection. also since i've bought the car my horn hasn't worked, didn't really bother me, so i never checked it out. These problems started showing up so i opened the fuse box to find the horn relay taken out of it's place and laid on it's side, I fixed it when i found it like that and the horned worked fine, but after i did this is when the fans stopped working I took out the horn relay again, and fixed the ground wire at the same time and all problems went away, wtf... i dunno, good thing is it's fine now |
Glad to hear it bro. Electrical problems can be a serious headache. Hopefully your fix holds up! |
