Kicker SSMB6's Okay, its definately time for some new sail panel speakers. I was wondering how the kicker ssmb6's would sound in my camaro if anyone knows? I have an alpine 9856 h/u and no amp or anything. I just want something with a little more bass than stock. Does anybody have these speakers? How do you like them? I'm asking because I found a good deal on a set, but if they aren't good then I guess I will spring for the Audiobahn AMD60Q's. Thanks for any help guys. |
bump. |
they are decent speakers, You really will need to get a little bit of sound deadener in that sail area and a Foam baffle and it should sound good. I installed a set in a 97 trans am and it sounded decent. I also am running 2 sets of the SS series components in my vehicle and am extremely satisfied with the results, but im also running about 1200 watts to 2 sets of components. |
Anyone else? |
they are average at best in my opinion. what is your budget? you can most assuredly get better midbass speakers for less than you would spend on the SSMB6's. |
Well, I guess I would spend $100 on a pair. I found those kickers on ebay for cheap, but I forgot about the bid and it ended. Can I get anything decent for $100? I have also considered the Audiobahn AMD60Q's. I know they don't have the best speakers by any means, but I'm not running an amp or anything, so I figured they would be okay. Any suggestions? |

Both of these are midbasses. If your running the speaker directly off of an Alpine head unit, why not drop in full range speakers? If it were me, I'd probably go with SPS-17C2's in both the doors and sails, with that setup. |
I have those alpines in my doors already. And they do sound good- however I don't think they would have enough bass for my liking if I put them in the sail panel. I will probably end up getting the audiobahns |
You should really consider an amp if you want any sort of real bass. The HU can only provide so much clean power, and it is really not enough to drive a woofer properly. I have heard the alpine spx-17mb (alpine type x mid bass drivers) driven off of a HU alone and off of an amp. They sound like crap when run off the HU. The 9856 is rated at 18W/channel @ 14.4 volts. Unless you're listening to your radio at low volume levels, this is just not enough. I would not put full range speakers in the sail panels. Believe it or not, you're actually closer to those than the door speakers. Your imaging would be thrown way off unless you bias the fader mostly to the front. Good luck |
