Driver's side mirror

Driver's side power mirror goes left and right but doesn't move up and down. What the hell happened? How can this be fixed?

I know this is a SERIOUSLY old thread, but mine just did this, this morning. Trying to see WTF if going on? I have been fighting that drivers side door speaker cutting in and out on me, thinking it might be related.

Same problem here, was like that when I got the car, I guess its pretty common. Anybody have a solution?

it's probably a stripped out gear, like what happens to the headlamp motors on the Firebirds/TAs and Corvette's. Replacement is the only to ensure proper fix.

I'm planning on pulling the mirror off tomorrow to see what is going on. Will update you guys with similar issues when I find the gremlin.

Hope this helps some of you guys with similar probs. Pulled the mirror off today expecting the motor to be gone. It wasn't. On the inside face of the mirror glass, there are clips that attach to the motor itself. The center pivot was good, though off its track in one place, the clip to the side was fine, this controls the side to side movement. The clip at the bottom which controls the up and down movement was broken off thus not letting it move up or down. I put it back together as is for now. But I will have to replace the actual mirror glass assembly.

Anyone know the part number? I am assuming that I will have to buy the replacement glass from the dealer based on its setup.

had just a few wires break off the switch on the door in mine

replaced with new switch and all is good as new.

How do you get the mirror apart?
