Default Got a wiring question.....

I currently have my nitrous accessories(heater, opener, and purge) wired to a toggle switch I installed which is connected to the auxilary power post next to the fuse boxes and want to wire this to ignition power. Here is a rough diagram:

heater lead--->
opener lead--->toggle switch--> fuse---> battery
purge lead --->

I currently have to turn this switch on if I use the nitrous...I did it to force me to plan to use nitrous because I thought I had to set the MAFT richer to be safe. Well...that was ignorant idea because on a dry system you can adjust for the additional load by using LS1 Edit. I am describing this in some detail to hopefully help with my question...which is... What wire can I tap into coming out of the fuse boxes to give me power when the car is on? or, is there an empty fuse source I could use? My main concern is the heater power requirement..don't want to fry anything. Whew, hopefully this made since..it is late.

You need to run a relay I believe. If you use a relay, you can just use one of the switched power leads to kick open the relay and supply the power to the accesories. I do not think that there is a switched wire that will support a direct wire of all those accesories...

How do you install a relay? Stupid question probably, but please enlighten me. How does a relay work? Where do you run the wires?
Thanks

I did this once and found the relay simple to install. I ran a large wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the interior of my truck(this was needed because the fuse box can not safely supply the voltage needed). That connected to the '12v supply' terminal of the relay. I then ran a ground wire to the 'ground' terminal. At this point I had 2 terminals left. I located a source/unused outlet in the fuse box which turned on when the key turned forward. I ran a wire from that terminal to the 'switched 12v' terminal on the relay(note: for even more control over the system I put a toggle switch on this wire so I could turn the system off even though the key is on). I now had 1 terminal left on the relay, and I ran a wire from that terminal(not sure what it is called cause it has been along time) to the bottle opener, etc. This provided power to my accessories when the key was turned on. If you have any doubts about being able to do the job yourself you may want to look into paying a shop to do it for you. Just my .02

Kinda like this?

heater lead--->|
opener lead--->|-->toggle switch-->fuse
purge lead --->|......................|<---|
|<------------------------------------|
|
|......fuse box-->|
|-------------->relay<----battery
ground----------->|

Sorry for extra lines but only way to show with this editor. Dots are spaces.

I observed their is a available 15 amp slot in the smaller fuse box. Is this ok? I guess that power is just to operate the relay...so should be fine?
Thanks for the insight!
Let me know if my diagram is right. Oh yeah, is there a certain type or size of relay I should get? Any recommendation here?

Worked great! Just got a 30 amp relay from Advance Auto and used a 10 amp "etc" spot for the ignition switch in the fuse box. No more switch to screw with! <img border="0" alt="[gruffy cottonball]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_gruffy.gif" />
