LEDs in Steering Wheel controls - what's wrong? Yesterday I found this article (Link) on how to replace the bulbs in the steering wheel controls. The factory bulb runs off 12V. Instead of replacing it with another bulb, I decided to use a couple 30Kmcd red LEDs and a resistor. I soldered the resistor to what I thought was the + terminal on the CB, connected the anode of one LED to that, the anode of the other LED to the cathode of the first, and the cathode of the second to the other terminal on the CB. It didn't work. I thought I may have the polarity wrong, so I reversed the connections to the CB. Still nothing. Any ideas? http://xomixx.com/archive/gtp/steeringwheelled.jpg |
Komik, Were you able to reslove the issue for your steering wheel controls? |
wow, old thread. maybe try switching it, it should work one way. |
I want to do this to mine in my SS. I would like to have them match the LED's I just put in the dash. -Mike |
The Guz, Did you get a chance to change them over to match your interior LEDs? If i can help, let me know. |
The Guz, In my '02 TA controls there were a total of 4 bulbs. If you want white you could remove the red cover off them or use 3mm LEDs and grind the tips down some to dipurse the light. I have a link to explain how to change them out. http://doghouse.2y.net/gtp/steeringcontrols/ I did a search for steering wheel controls in also. There was another writeup on this but I've deleted it. If you need the other one let me know, so I can find it tonight while at work. One thing about the '02 leds whas that the pos. leads were opposite for the LEDs on the same circuit board. I trial fitted everything and made sure that the polarity was correct before soldering everything up. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Dave |
I just did mine 2 days ago and they work like a charm. First check if you have 12v... and then follow the instructions on this link. I did the same thing he did except I did it in red..... http://www.evlls1.com/steeringwheel.html |
