Default Speaker install help.

First let me say that I have done a search and most everything that comes up refers to the monsoon system. I'm pretty sure I don't have the monsoon system. My radio doesn't say monsoon and all my speakers are AC Delco.

I want to change out the front speakers. There are 2 sets of wires that go to each speaker. How do I wire the 2 sets of speakers to the new speaker which only has a connection point for 1 set of wires? Thanks.

This has been addressed a few times but I'll help you out!! The 4 wires are for the tweeter and the midrange. Wired up like a component set of speakers but arranged like a coaxial. The answer to your question is if you can't access the tweeter wires on the new speaker you can't hook up the speaker properly. This is why Camaro owners have to be a bit picky when selecting new speakers or they won't work right. Either you hook up the tweeter wires and get all highs or the midrange wires and get no highs.
You access the tweeter wires and splice into them to get full range sound. Otherwise you need another set of speakers. I have speakers that work with the Camaro starting at $89.00.

Ummmm...okay. So how do you splice into the tweeter wires. What I have is a set of Infinity Reference Series 652i speakers. Can I make those work? A buddy gave them to me and he had them in his daughters camaro for about a year. He did not install them nor take them out so he doesn't know how they were wired. Also there is a small transister looking thing with wires running to it connected to the side of the Infinity's. What is that? Sorry for my audio ignorance, but it has been about 15 years since I have installed speakers into anything. Thanks again.

You have a Monsoon system - that's the only one that has the four wire setup in the doors. Basically, you want to split the wiring on the back of the speakers so that the tweeters and woofers act as separate components rather than just two parts of a single speaker. If you look at the two terminals on the speaker you will see that each has two wires connected to it. You want to carefully cut the wire from each terminal that goes to the tweeter (the small center part of the speaker). Then you want to connect (preferably solder) the original tweeter wires to those wires you cut and the original woofer wires to the terminals where there are still wires attached. The capacitor you see in the tweeter wires is a high-pass filter that keeps low frequency signal from reaching the tweeter and possibly damaging it. If you're not sure which pair of wires was for the tweeter and which was for the woofer, don't worry - if you hook them up backwards you won't get good sound but it won't hurt anything (provided you only use low volume). Just switch them and the sound should be fine.

On the Infinity he should be able to access the tweeter wires by the vent in the magnet. They are really thin wires. Just make sure you leave enough wire on the speaker to tap into them.
