has this been done before? a DIRECT monsoon amp replacement, with a 32 pin connector and some re-wiring i know it`s not the greatest idea but, has someone tried it? :pimp: |
go ahead, some minimum requirements are: 8 channels filters on some channels small size ....that pretty much kills the idea right there. Not sure what you mean by replacement though -- stock location? stock speakers? Either way - if you're going for an aftermarket system, there is no reason to try to replace the amp in that way. |
i meant using the stock harness wiring, plug and play type set up. i was hoping to just replace everything easily and use the stock wiring/connectors. but it looks to be a pipe dream. |
Trying to do all of that is more of a pain. |
The Monsoon amp does a pretty good job for a low power amp. There's really no point in replacing it if you plan to use a stock configuration. If you want more power or other capabilities of an amp (bridging, gain control, etc.) then you'd probably want an aftermarket amp that uses low-level (rather than speaker level) input so you'd have to rewire anyway. |
I had considered doing it with Tripath amps bridged before. I decided that it was too much trouble. 4 amp32s from 41hz would work great with just some crossovers necessary, but they would be no more powerful than the stock amp, if not less. You'd need a power supply to give you more voltage if you wanted more power. AMP9-basic would also work, and wouldn't be too bad with 2 ohm speakers. |
thanks guys. is there any benefit to running the door and hatch speakers off of the HU by itself? |

When I replaced my brother's front speakers with coaxials, I tried: tweeter wires only (provide high only in Camaro), woofer wires only, and HU power. I did not dissect the speaker to power the tweeter/woofer portions separately. IMO, HU power sounded the best (louder/more clear). Everyone's Monsoon amp seems to be in different conditions though, and yours may sound fine to you. Use the woofer wires only and see how you like that first before you spend time rewiring. |
