My friend used to own a 3-phase tig welder in his shop, so naturally my curiosity drew me to it and I asked to learn on it. I discovered how important it is to weld only very clean metals if you expect pretty results. Within a few days I was fabricating entire intercooler setups/plumbing and even selling kits on ebay complete, it was alot of fun to cut and weld aluminum. Steel on the other hand, I never got the hang of tig welding any steel. .
