The Making of a 400 Horsepower Super Beetle

It doesn’t always have to be big muscly V8 swaps around here. Sometimes, ridiculously awesome builds can come in the shape of a car designed for the Germans around the period of 1945! In this case, the build is a 1970 Volkswagen Beetle.

Bugs are great platforms to do a whole heck of a lot of custom work. They are cheap and you usually can pick one up for a grand or two. And although being quite small, offer loads of space to do any number of things to the body and interior.

This build comes from CBM Motorsports, who are also one of our sponsors here. They took a 1970 Beetle, stripped the entire car. Made a brand new frame. Dropped a 2.2l Ecotech Cobalt engine, no word on if their ignition keeps turning off, making 400 horsepower into the middle of the car. And there you have it. It’s sick.

They widened the fenders in the front by 5-inches, and 6-inches out back. Throw in some adjustable coilovers, and full discs all the way round, this thing is going to fly and hug the road like a chipmunk on PCP!

If you head over to the build page it’s just filled with strong car pornography. The work they did is absolutely amazing. Now all it needs is a livery, my thoughts are either Gulf, or Repsol!
