In honor of the original 427 Big Block V8 that was offered by Chevy many years ago, Chevy Performance has created something new that harks back to the old but will set a whole new generation of performance enthusiasts hair on fire.

In a shorter sentence, they created a new version that’s dubbed the Chevrolet Performance Anniversary Edition 427 big-block V8 Crate Engine.

While that’s a silly long name for something that should be just called a 427 big-block, the Anniversary Edition is a hell of a performer. This particular motor is derived from the 6.2 LT1 and the DR525 drag racing crate motors Chevy Performance already sells.

First off, it makes 430 horsepower at 5,800 rpm, and 450 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 rpm. It’s an all-aluminium block with forged connecting rods and crankshaft. The pistons are also forged aluminum.

The motor runs on a  10.1:1 compression ratio, and uses a 770 cfm carb. Only 427 motors will be built to this specification, and all are intended for pre-1976 vehicles or off-road applications.

The cost for this beast though is what’s truly staggering. Are you sitting down? Good, because the 427 Anniversary Edition costs $28,625. Good lord that’s a lot of money.

So what do you all think, are you getting in line for one right now? Or are you just going to pass?
