Jay Leno Looks Back at the GMC Syclone

The GMC Syclone was perhaps one of the most under-appreciated cars ever to surface from GM. Only 2,995 Syclones were ever produced, and production only spanned a single year. Although most will say two years, the three produced in 1992 weren’t exactly full production cars.

In its day, the pickup was actually faster to 60 miles per hour than a contemporary Ferrari Testarosa. Even today, the 4.3 seconds it takes for the Syclone to get to 60 miles per hour is considered fast.

Using a turbocharged 4.3L 6-cylinder engine, the Syclone made 280 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, and today, one of the most pristine Syclones is the feature of Jay Leno’s Garage. The Syclone in question is actually Leno’s personal car, which he bought new. Leno runs down why he bought the Syclone in the video, but it is worth mentioning that in 1991, the GMC Syclone, a glorified pickup truck was the fastest accelerating production car you could buy in the United States. I sometimes miss the early 90s.
